In recent years it has become accepted that there would be a new Number 1 single almost every week but things have changed for the moment. Since the start of 2015 to date in the 1st 15 weeks of this year there have only been 5 different chart toppers, this mirrors the long stays at Number 1 that big sellers enjoyed in the 60’s 70’s and 80’s. Jess Glynne achieves a very impressive 3rd week at Number 1 with the song she co wrote, ‘Hold My Hand’. There was strong opposition from Nick Jonas with ‘Jealous’ who has entered at Number 2, this was the highest of 5 new entries.

Jess Glynne holds on to the Number 1 spot for a 2nd week with ‘Hold My Hand’. The main opposition this week turned out to be Ed Sheeran with ‘Bloodstream’ climbing a massive 24 places to Number 2, the reason for this is the release of the Rudimental remix.

For the last 3 weeks in a row there have been  only 2 new entries on the top 40 singles chart, but the lack of competition should not take away anything from the achievements of the Mark Ronson ft Bruno Mars song ‘Uptown Funk’. The last song to achieve 5 weeks at Number 1 was ‘Blurred Lines’ from Robin Thicke back on 20th July 2013. On 19th November 2011 Rihanna ft Calvin Harris with ‘We Found Love’ managed 6 weeks at the top, that song holds the record of the longest stay at Number 1 so far this decade.
