After playing 2nd fiddle to Wiz Khalifa for the last 2 weeks, Omi finally takes over at Number 1 with ‘Cheerleader’, becoming the 7th different song to top the charts this year.Omi originally recorded and released the song back in 2012 and it was a hit in Hawaii and his home in Jamaica, after hearing it in 2014 the song was remixed by German music producer Felix Jahen and since then it has become a worldwide hit. The song has now topped the charts in 14 countries including Australia, Germany and the Netherlands, it is yet to break in America where to date its peak position has only been a lowly Number 95.

It was back in 2012 that we last heard from Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepson. Her debut hit ‘Call Me Maybe’ spent 4 weeks at Number 1 in April and May  and was followed later that year when she charted as featured artist on Owl City’s ‘Good Time’(Number 5). Since then things have been quiet, until now, as this week she has the highest new entry at Number 3 with ‘I Really Like You’, it is taken from her forth coming 3rd studio Album to be called’ E.mo-tion’. The video for the song is notable for the appearance of Hollywood superstar Tom Hanks, Jepson co wrote the song with Peter Svennson who was the writer of the hit singles of the Swedish band The Cardigans back in the 1990’s.

Swedish music producer Alesso charts for a 2nd time this year with the new entry at Number 10 called ‘Cool’, in total he has now had 5 top 40 singles. This new track features vocals from Roy English who is the lead singer of American rock group Eye Alaska.’Cool ‘samples a 2010 song from Kylie Minogue called ‘Get Outta My Way’ taken from her ‘Aphrodite’ Album. The video for the song was made at the Venice High School in Los Angles which is famous for being the venue where the film ‘Grease’ was made and also the recording of Britney Spears video ‘Baby One More Time’.

‘I’m An Albatraoz’ is a song that has a novelty feel to it and is a new entry on the UK top 40 this week at Number 25. The artist behind the song is Aron Chupa, he is also 1 of the 5 members of the Electro Dance group called Albatraoz who come from Sweden. All 5 group members also play professional football for Swedish 4th division team Byttorps IF. ‘I’m An Albatraoz’ has already been a big success in Europe having peaked at Number 1 in Denmark and Sweden and Number 2 in Austria and the Netherlands, the song features uncredited vocals from Aron Chupas sister Nora Ekberg.

Born in Bray County Wicklow Ireland Andrew Hozier-Byrne better known by his stage name Hozier now has 2 singles in the top 40 this week , ‘Something New’ is a new entry at Number 36, ‘Take Me To Church’ now in its 40th week on the chart drops 1 place to Number 17. Both songs are taken from his debut Album called ‘Hozier’. The video for the song features actress Natalie Dormer whom fans of ‘Game of Thrones’ will know better as Margaery Tyrell. In his native Ireland ‘From Eden’ (Number 2) and ‘Sedated’ (Number 4)have also charted.

Joshua Adenuga is an English rapper and Grime artist from Tottenham London, he has 1 of the 5 new entries in the top 40 at Number 39 this week with ‘Shutdown’.  His debut Album back in 2007 was called ‘Greatest Hits’ but produced no hit singles, it was the track ‘Rescue Me’ from his 3rd Album ‘Cross My Heart’ which peaked at Number 14 in 2010 that has given him his only top 20 single to date. Although as featured artist he has had a Number 3 hit on the Wiley song ‘Can You Hear Me’ in 2012.

Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth with ‘See You Again’ becomes the 6th different Number 1 single this year. Since the charts began back in November 1952 there have now been 1290 chart toppers .The song is featured in and on the soundtrack to the new film Fast And Furious 7, the song is also Number 1 on Billboard this week, it was a new entry at Number 22 last week so climbs a massive 21 places. The other big climber is Omi with ‘cheerleader’, it was a new entry at Number 25 last week and this week climbs to Number 2 after receiving its official release, the release date having been brought forward due to popular demand.

In total there are 4 new entries on the new top 40 this week, the highest is at Number 4 for Dr Kucho and Grego Salto with ‘Can’t Stop Playing (Makes Me High)’, the song is remixed for official release by Oliver Heldens . Dr Kucho is the stage name of Daniel Salazar a Spanish dance music producer who originally released this song 10 years ago when it reached Number 16 in Holland and Number 33 in Belgium. Oliver Heldens had 2 top 5 singles last year, ‘Last All Night’ which reached Number 5 and ‘Gecko’ which was Number 1.

Lethal Bizzle is the stage name of London born Maxwell Ansah who was born to Ghanainan parents. He is one of the leading artists of the musical genre ‘Grime’ which is a mix of Drum And Bass  and Hip Hop, this week he charted at Number 11 with his 11th UK hit single called ‘Fester Skank’. His 1st hit was back in 2005 with what was also his biggest hit to date a song called ‘Oi’ which peaked at Number 7. There are no plans currently for an Album release to follow this single but he has released 3 Albums previously the last being back in 2009 called ‘Go Hard’ which failed to reach the top 100.

Australian rapper Iggy Azalea teams up with American singer Jennifer Hudson to record the single ‘Trouble’ which charts this week at Number 21.This is their 2nd collaboration as Azalea dueted with Hudson on the song ‘He Aint Goin Nowhere’ on Hudson’s album ‘JHUD’. Iggy Azaleas debut Album ‘The New Classic’ produced 5 top 20 singles and because of that success 7 months later the Album was reissued as ‘Reclassified’ featuring 5 brand new songs including this current single ‘Trouble’. ‘The New Classic’ peaked at Number 5 on the Album chart and to date ‘Reclassified’ has been as high as Number 6.

New in at Number  27 is Dublin based Alternative Rock group Kodaline with ‘The One’. The track is taken from their 2nd studio Album ‘Coming Up For Air’ which peaked at Number 4 and Number 1 in their native Ireland .This is the 2nd single from the Album and their 2nd top 40 hit this year as ‘Honest’ peaked at Number 39 back in February. In total they have now had 4 UK top 40 singles with the most successful being’ High Hopes’ which reached Number 16 in 2013.

In recent years it has become accepted that there would be a new Number 1 single almost every week but things have changed for the moment. Since the start of 2015 to date in the 1st 15 weeks of this year there have only been 5 different chart toppers, this mirrors the long stays at Number 1 that big sellers enjoyed in the 60’s 70’s and 80’s. Jess Glynne achieves a very impressive 3rd week at Number 1 with the song she co wrote, ‘Hold My Hand’. There was strong opposition from Nick Jonas with ‘Jealous’ who has entered at Number 2, this was the highest of 5 new entries.

Nick Jonas has the highest new entry on the top 40 this week at Number 2 with his 1st solo hit single called ‘Jealous’, it is taken from his 2nd solo self titled Album. Along with his brothers Kevin and Joe he initially found fame as the Jonas Brothers who in the UK had limited success with 3 top 40 singles, the best known one being ‘SOS’ which peaked at Number 13 in 2007. In America their home country they were far more popular with 2 of their 4 Albums getting to Number 1 and reaching the top 40 10 times, their highest charting American hit being’ Burnin Up’ which peaked at Number 5 in 2008.

Stevie McCrorie was the winner of the 4th series of the BBC programme ‘The Voice UK’ , in the live final he sang ‘Lost Stars’. This song has been released as his 1st solo single and has charted this week at Number 6. McCrorie is 30 years old and comes from Falkirk, the song is this week’s number 1 in his native Scotland. The song ‘Lost Stars’ was featured in the 2013 film ‘Born Again’ and also on the soundtrack Album where 2 versions were recorded, one by actress Keira Knightley and the other from Adam Levine who is the lead singer of Maroon 5.

New dance music gives us this week’s 3rd new entry at Number 17 for Pep and Rash with Rumors.

There is a new entry at Number 22 for Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth with ‘See You Again’, the song is featured on  the Soundtrack of the current film’ Fast And Furious 7’. Khalifa is a 27 year old American rapper whose real name is Cameron Thomaz who charts in the UK for a 7th time, he is best known for his Number 5 single in 2010 ‘Black and Yellow’. He was also the featured artist on Maroon 5’s 2012 Number 1 ‘Payphone’. Charlie Puth is 23 years old and is an American singer /songwriter, his only other release to date is a song called ‘Marvin Gaye’ which features vocals from Meghan Trainor and charted at Number 32 in Australia back in February. ‘See You Again’ is the new Number 1 in America this week.

The 5th and final new entry this week is at Number 40 for Meghan Trainor with ‘Dear Future Husband’, it is the 3rd single from her Album  called ‘Title’. ‘All About That Bass’ reached Number 1 for 4 weeks last year and the follow up ‘Lips Are Movin’ peaked at Number 2, earlier on this year. All 3 hits were co written with Kevin Kadesh who also produced all 3 songs

On the top 40 this week there are 4 new entries.

The highest to chart is at Number 11 for chart new comers Tough Love with ‘So Freakin Tight’. Pitbull is back with a new entry at Number 24 with his 14th hit as lead artist with ‘Time of Our Lives’, the song features vocals from Ne-Yo.  Norwegian music producer Kygo gets the 3rd new entry with ‘Firestone’ at Number 37, it has already been to Number 1 in his native Norway and the final new song to chart is at Number 38 for MNEK with ‘The Rhythm’, more on him later this week.

Last week’s Number 1 single ‘Lay Me Down’, the Comic Relief charity single for this year holds the Number 1 spot for a 2nd week, it is a collaboration between Sam Smith and John Legend, the solo version from Sam Smith drops 1 place to Number 19. Years And Years with ‘King’ stay at Number 2 for a 2nd week with their ex chart topper and Kanye West with Rihanna and Paul McCartney climb 2 places to Number 3 with ‘Four Five Seconds’. The song making slow but significant headway up the chart is ‘Hold Back The River’ from James Bay, this week it climbs another 6 places to Number 4 in its 17th week, completing the new top 5 is Ellie Goulding with ‘Love Me Like You Do’ dropping 1 place.

The highest new entry on this week top 40 is at Number 11 for dance music producers Tough Love with ‘So Freakin Tight’, there are also a remix of the song from Birmingham based Hannah Wants.

Armando Christian Perez better known as Pitbull is 34 years old and was born in Miami Florida on the 15th of January 1981, he enters this week’s top 40 at Number 28 with ‘Time of Our Lives’. The song features Ne-Yo whom he last teamed up with back in 2010 on the Number 1 single ‘Give Me Everything’, this track is the 14th top 40 single for Pitbull as lead artist he has also had a further 10 as featured artist. ‘Time of Our Lives’ is the 5th track to be released from his 2014 album ‘’Globalization’.

Kygo is the stage name of Norwegian born music producer Kyrre Gorvell Dahil, he scores his 1st UK top 40 single this week at Number 37 with ‘Firestone’. The song has already achieved major success around Europe including peaking at Number 5 in Germany and Number 1 in his native Norway, he is currently one of the most sort after producers when a top artist wants a remix, notable recent remixes include ‘I See Fire’ for Ed Sheeran and ‘Midnight’ for Coldplay.

One of the UKs most talented musicians currently is Uzo Emenike, he is 20 years old and was born in London. Lovers of dance music or UK top 40 chart followers will know him better by his stage name MNEK, this week he has his 1st top 40 single as main artist as ‘The Rhythm’ charts at Number 38. As featured artist last year he reached Number 4 with Gorgon City on the track ‘Ready for Love’, but that is only a very small part of his success. Back in 2011 he had his 1st hit when he wrote and produced the Number 3 song for The Saturdays ‘All Fired Up’. He achieved his 1st Number 1 in 2012 as the producer of’ Wings’ for Little Mix, his 2nd Number 1 came last year when he wrote the song ‘Gecko’ for Oliver Heldens. Apart from his current hit ‘The Rhythm’ he is also the writer of the current chart hit (currently Number 23)’Say Something’ by Karen Harding. His most prestigious moment though is being the writer of Madonna’s current single ‘Living for Love’ on which he also sings backing vocals.

The power of Comic Relief has helped Sam Smith ft John Legend with ‘Lay Me Down’ to become the 4th different Number 1 single of 2015. This is the 14th chart topper for a Red Nose Day song, dating back to 1986 when the very 1st Comic Relief single from Cliff Richard ft The Young Ones with a version of ‘Living Doll’ hit the top. ‘Lay Me Down’ was the 1st single released from Sam Smiths debut Album (‘In The Lonely Hour’) back in 2013 when it only reached Number 46, after Smith found success the song was re- released as the 5th single release from the Album this time peaking at Number 15. This new version gives John Legend a 1st UK Number 1, ‘All of Me’ peaked at Number 2 last year.

The 2nd highest new entry on this week’s top 40 is at Number 3 for Flo Rida ft Sage The Gemini  with  ‘GDFR’ (abbreviation for Going Down For Real).It is the 1st single release from his forth coming 5th studio Album due in April to be called ‘My House’. Flo Rida,s real name is Tramar Lacel Dillard and he comes from Carol City, Florida, he is 35 years old. His debut single ‘Low’ peaked at Number 2 back in 2007, as main artist he has had 3 Number ‘1s with ‘Right Round’, ‘Club Can’t Handle Me’ and ‘Good Feeling’. He has also been to Number 1 twice as a featured artist on the Alexandra Burke song ‘Bad Boys’ and the Olly Murs hit ‘Troublemaker’. Sage The Gemini whose real name is Dominic Wynn Woods is from California, he is also one of the co writers of the song, this is his 1st UK chart entry.

Usher Raymond is back, his new single entered the UK top 40 this week at Number 8 it is called’ I Don’t Mind ‘and features the services of Juicy J. Usher is one of R and B’s superstars and this single adds even further distinction to his ever growing discography. His 1st UK hit was the 1997 Number 1 ‘You Make Me Wanna’, he has gone on to have a further 3 chart toppers, ‘Yeah’ in 2004,’Burn’ in 2004 and ‘OMG’ in 2010. In total he has now had 23 top 40 singles as lead artist and a further 5 as a featured artist, Juicy j is an American rapper he is best known to date in the UK for providing the rap on Katy Perry’s  2013 Number 4 single ‘Dark Horse’.

Marcus Mumford, Winston Marshall, Ben Lovett and Ted Dwane are better known as British folk rock band Mumford and Sons. To date they have released 2 Albums, ‘Sigh No More (UK Number 1) and’ Babel’ (UK Number 20), the 3rd Album ‘Wilder Mind’ is due out on May 4th. The 1st single from the new Album is called’ Believe’ and it is a new entry at Number 20 this week, music critics say it is a departure from their trademark acoustic sound as this new song features electric guitars. This is the 4th top 40 hit for the band ‘I Will Wait’ back in 2012 achieved their highest placing to date reaching Number 12.

This week Scottish dance music producer Calvin Harris achieved a 6th top 40 hit single from his current Album ‘Motion’ when ‘Pray To God’ charted at Number 36. This is Harris’s 2oth top 40 single as lead artist, he has also had a further 3 as a featured artist. This current track features American Pop/Rock all girl group HAIM who also receive credits as co authors of the song.They have released 1 Album to date called ‘Days Are Gone’ which produced 4 top 40 singles, the most successful being ‘The Wire’ reaching Number 16.

It’s week 10 of the UK top 40 of 2015 and for only the 3rd time this year there is a change at the top.

Ellie Goulding gives way to the electronic trio Years and Years, who with their song ‘King’ get the 1287th different chart topper since the very 1st chart back in November 1952.

Years and Years are Olly Alexander, Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Turkmen. They formed in London back in 2010, ‘King’ is their 6th single, their previous release ‘Desire’ peaked at Number 22 last year. They have also charted once as featured artist with The Magician last year on the Number 7 single ‘Sunlight’.

You could say that Marlon Roudette was born to do the job as he is the son of top British songwriter/producer Cameron Mcvey and his step mother is Nenah Cherry .He has the 2nd highest new entry on this week’s top 40 at Number 7 with ‘When the Beat Drops. He is already a very successful  artist abroad scoring a Number 1 single back in 2011 with ‘New Age’ in Germany ,Austria and Switzerland and this his 1st UK solo hit has also topped the chart in Gemany. Before going solo Roudette was part of the duo Mattafix with Preetesh Hirji, they had a hit back in 2005 when’ Big City Life’ reached Number 15.

Dance music is the one constant on the UK top 40 and there seems to be new songs of that genre entering the chart every week and this week is no exception. The new entry at Number 13 is from 22 year old Sussex born dance music producer Alex Adair with ‘Make Me Feel Better ‘and this is his first taste of chart success .If you go to You Tube you will be able to find many famous artists songs he has remixed including 2 current chart hits, the Imagine Dragons song ‘I Bet My Life’ and Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’.

Kanye West becomes the 1st artist this year to have 3 hit singles and Paul McCartney the 1st to have 3 hits as featured artist as ‘All Day’ enters the UK top 40 at Number 18, the song also credits Allen Kingdom and Theopilus London as featured artists. The song is the 3rd single release from West’s upcoming 7th studio Album to be called ‘So Help Me God’, all 3 songs (the other 2 were ‘Only One’ and’ Four Five Seconds’) were co written and played on by Paul McCartney. This was the song West performed recently at the Brit Awards where he was joined on stage by UK artists including Skepta and Wiley.

Imagine Dragons are an American Indie Rock band from Las Vegas, the 4 members are Dan Reynolds, Daniel Wayne Sermon, Daniel Platzman and Ben Mckee .To date they have released 2 studio Albums, ‘Night Visions’ in 2012 and ‘Smoke And Mirrors’ in 2015. The current Album which is already a former Number 1 was released on February 17th, so far it has produced 1 hit single, ‘I Bet My Life’ peaking at Number 27. Their debut album Night Visions (UK Number 2) produced 5 top 40 singles including ‘Demons’ which reached Number 13 back in 2013, now in its 71st week in the top 100 it has re-entered the top 40 at Number 33.

I can’t remember the last time the top 5 singles all stayed in the same place as they did the previous week but that is what has happened this week.

This of course means Ellie Goulding with, Love Me Like You Do, keeps the top spot for a 4th week. In the whole of 2015 so far there have only been 2 different Number 1’s. Hozier with ‘Take Me to Church’ keeps the Number 2 spot in what is now its 31st week on the chart. Mark Ronson ft Bruno Mars with ‘Uptown Funk’ stays at Number 3, last week it became only the 158th UK single since the charts inception in 1952 to surpass 1000000 sales. No doubt the publicity surrounding the Fifty Shades of Grey film is doing no harm to the sales of ‘Earned It’ from The Weeknd which holds onto the Number 4 spot and completing a static top 5 is Kanye West, Rihanna and Paul McCartney with ‘Four Five Seconds’.

On the UK top 40 singles chart there are a total of 5 new entries and 1 re-entry this week. The only new track to enter the top 10 is at Number 7 for Kelly Clarkson with ‘Heartbeat Song’, Clarkson is 32 years old and was born in Fort Worth Texas. She was the 1st winner of American Idol back in 2002, to date she has released 5 Albums which have all reached the top 3 on the Billboard top 200 Album chart, 4 of them reaching the top 5 on the UK top 100 Album chart. Singles wise ‘Heartbeat Song’ is her 15th top 40 hit, ‘Miss Independent’ (Number 6-2003) was the 1st hit and her biggest success came in 2009 when ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’ gave her, her only Number 1 to date.

The new entry at Number 22 this week is from Axwell and Ingrosso with ‘Something New’. They were two thirds of The Swedish House Mafia who split in 2012, the other member who has now gone solo was Steve Angello. This is the 1st single release from the now new duo. With the Swedish House Mafia they had 6 top 40 singles including the 2012 Number 1 ‘Don’t You Worry Child’. As a solo artist Sebastian Ingrosso has charted twice with ‘Calling’ (Number19-2012) and ‘Reload’ (Number 3-2013).Axwell has also had 2 hits as a solo artist, ‘Feel the Vibe’ (Number 16-2005) and ‘Tell Me Why’ (Number 13-2006).

Dance music makes an appearance at Number 24 with this week’s 3rd new entry from The Disciples with ‘They Don’t Know’. They are 3 musicians from London and this song has gained in popularity since it was premiered as the essential tune of the week last August on the Pete Tong Radio 1 show. They were part of the entertainment last week at the after show at The Brit awards.

Madonna returns to the UK top 40 at Number 26 this week with ‘Living For Love’, this is the 1st single release from her forthcoming 13th studio Album to be called ‘Rebel Heart’. Madonna’s charting record of course is phenomenal, ‘Holiday’ gave her, her debut hit peaking at Number 2 back in 1983, it wasn’t until her 8th hit that she got her 1st Number 1 with Into ‘The Groove’ in 1985. In total she has now had 68 UK top 40 singles of which 13 have gone to Number 1. Since the turn of this decade her singles haven’t been so successful with only 2 of them charting, this current one and ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’ ft Nicki Minaj (Number 37-2012). Of her 12 studio Album releases to date 9 have been to Number 1 including the last one ‘MDNA’ in 2012, that Album is Madonna’s lowest selling Album by far, selling 131000 in the UK and 2 million worldwide,’ Like A Virgin’ and ‘True Blue’ each sold 25 million apiece.

Ed Sheeran now has 4 singles in this week’s top 40 as ‘Bloodstream’ charts at Number 35, all 4 current hits feature on his 6 times platinum selling Album ‘multiply(X)’. Thinking ‘Out Loud’ and ‘Sing’ have both been to Number 1 and ‘Don’t’ peaked at Number 8. In total he has now charted as lead or featured artist on 18 top 40 singles, this latest hit ‘Bloodstream’ will be available in a remixed version on March 29th featuring dance music producers Rudimental.

Due to her appearance performing at The Brits last week Paloma Faith has re-entered the chart at Number 32 with ‘Only Love Can Hurt Like This’, the song originally peaked at Number 6 last year.

Ellie Goulding holds the top spot for a 3rd consecutive week with ‘Love Me Like You Do’. In fact all top 3 singles this week are the same as last with the  Hozier song  ‘Take Me To Church’ at 2 and Mark Ronson  ft Bruno Mars with ‘Uptown Funk’ at 3.

The big climber is The Weeknd at Number 4 climbing from last week’s Number 10 with ‘Earned It’ which is one of the songs featured on the ‘50 Shades Of Grey’ soundtrack. Kanye West with Rihanna and Sir Paul McCartney are a non mover at Number 5 with ‘Four FIve Seconds’ and last week’s highest new entry from DJ Fresh with ‘Gravity’ drops 2 places to Number 6. Maroon 5 with ‘Sugar’ continues to go in the right direction climbing 4 to Number 7 and Avicci with ‘The Nghts’ is up 1 to 8. Completing this week’s top 10 is Charli XCX with Rita Ora dropping 1 to 9 with ‘Doing It’ and ‘Thinking Out Loud’ from Ed Sheeran dropping 3 places to 10.

A total of 4 new entries on the top 40 this week, with the highest being at Number 17 for Luvbug with ‘Revive’ (Say Something). Luvbug are a British electronic trio consisting of Marvin Humes, The White N3rd and Jkay. This is their 2nd top 20 single following on from the success of ‘Resonance’ (Number 14) last October,  this new track features uncredited vocals from Mark Asari. They are currently working on an Album due for release later on this year.

New in at Number 20 is David Guetta ft Emeli Sande with ‘What I Did for Love’. This is the 5th single release from Guettas  6th studio Album ‘Listen’, the previous 4 were ‘Shot Me Down’ (Number 4), ‘Bad’ (Number 22), ‘Lovers On The Sun’ (Number 1) and ‘Dangerous’ (Number 5).As a featured artist Emeli Sande has now charted on 8 occasions, with ‘Naughty Boy’(3 times), Chipmunk, Professor Green, Labrinth  and Rudimental.

Style is the 3rd single release from Taylor Swifts current Album ‘1989’, following on from ‘Shake It Off’ (Number 2) and ‘Blank Space’ (Number 4), the song is a new entry at Number 36. In America on  (Billboard) all 3 tracks have made the top 10 with ‘Shake It Off’ and ‘Blank Space’ both reaching Number 1, in the UK Taylor Swift still awaits her 1st chart topper.

The 4th and final new entry is at Number 36 for Florence and the Machine with ‘What Kind Of Man’. The song is the 1st single to be released from her forthcoming 3rd studio Album to be called How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful’.  This new song gives Florene Welch an 8th top 40 single, her most successful song to date was the Number 1 single ‘Spectrum’ back in 2012.

It is the 4th week of the New Year and we remain starved of new music on the UK top 40 singles chart. This week there is only 1 new entry and in fact in the whole month of January there have been only 7 new entries.

Mark Ronson ft Bruno Mars with ‘Uptown Funk’ holds on to the Number 1 spot and now has achieved a 6th unconsequitive week at the top.  Ronsons LP ‘Uptown Special’ also holds the top spot on the Album chart. The last song to spend 6 weeks at Number 1 was ‘We Found Love’ from Rihanna ft Calvin Harris back in November 2011.The last song to spend 7 weeks at the top was ‘Bleeding Love’ from Leona Lewis during November and December 2007.

The only new entry this week is at Number 2 for Meghan Trainor who is no longer a one hit wonder. The follow up to ‘All About That Bass’ (4 weeks at Number 1 last year) is ‘Lips Are Movin’, as with ‘All About That Bass’ the song is co- written by Trainor and Kevin Kadish, Kadish also produced the track. The song has already peaked at Number 3 in Australia and Number 4 in America where it has sold over 1 million copies to date. Both songs feature on Trainors debut Album which is called ‘Title’.

Hozier holds on to the Number 3 spot with ‘Take Me to Church’ and Philip George drops 2 to Number 4 with ‘Wish You Were Mine’. Olly Murs ft Demi Lovato with ‘Up’ drops down 1 place to Number 5. Avicci whose song ‘The Nights’  was a new entry at Number 16 last week climbs 8 places, while last week’s other new entry from Sia with ‘Elastic Heart’ climbs 2 to 11. Echosmith with ‘Cool Kids’ continues to climb, it’s up another 11 places to Number 17 this week.

The 1st chart of a New Year and as always it is one of the quieter ones. In total there are just 2 new entries and four re-entries.

The first Number 1 single of 2015 is the one which closed the year of 2014 as ‘Uptown Funk’ from Mark Ronson ft Bruno Mars now achieves a 3rd  non consecutive week at Number 1.

The highest new entry is at Number 2 for Philip George with ‘Wish You Were Mine’, George is 21 years old and comes from Nottingham, he is a dance music producer and this his debut single samples the lyrics of the Stevie wonder classic ‘My Cherie Amour’ (Number 4 in the USA and UK in 1969) having heard the track Stevie wonder has given it is blessing and in George is now signed to Motown Records who have given him permission to sample other songs from the Motown vaults.

Holding steady at Number 3 is the ex Number 1 from Ed Sheeran ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and down 2 to 4 is last year’s X Factor winner Ben Haenow with ‘Something I Need’. Taylor Swift drops 1 place to Number 5 with ‘Blank Space’.

The 4 re-entries are from Sigma with ‘Changes’, Pharrell Williams with ‘Happy’, John Legend with ‘All Of Me’ and Lilly Wood with ‘Prayer In C’  are at Numbers 33, 34, 36 and 39 respectively.

The only other song to enter the top 40 this week is at Number 35 for Kanye West ft Paul McCartney and Ty Dolla Sign with ‘Only One’. Last September West and McCartney got together with other artists and recorded 2 songs together in Mexico, ‘Only One’ is a song about West’s daughter, sang from the perspective of his mother Dr Donda West who died in 2007. This is Kanye West’s 22 UK top 40 single as lead artist he has had a further 12 as featured artist. As well as being co writer of the song Paul McCartney plays piano and sings on the track, it is his  1st charting song since ‘Dance Tonight/ Nod Your Head’  from his 2007 Album ‘Memory Almost Full’ peaked at Number 26.
