In recent years it has become accepted that there would be a new Number 1 single almost every week but things have changed for the moment. Since the start of 2015 to date in the 1st 15 weeks of this year there have only been 5 different chart toppers, this mirrors the long stays at Number 1 that big sellers enjoyed in the 60’s 70’s and 80’s. Jess Glynne achieves a very impressive 3rd week at Number 1 with the song she co wrote, ‘Hold My Hand’. There was strong opposition from Nick Jonas with ‘Jealous’ who has entered at Number 2, this was the highest of 5 new entries.
Nick Jonas has the highest new entry on the top 40 this week at Number 2 with his 1st solo hit single called ‘Jealous’, it is taken from his 2nd solo self titled Album. Along with his brothers Kevin and Joe he initially found fame as the Jonas Brothers who in the UK had limited success with 3 top 40 singles, the best known one being ‘SOS’ which peaked at Number 13 in 2007. In America their home country they were far more popular with 2 of their 4 Albums getting to Number 1 and reaching the top 40 10 times, their highest charting American hit being’ Burnin Up’ which peaked at Number 5 in 2008.
Stevie McCrorie was the winner of the 4th series of the BBC programme ‘The Voice UK’ , in the live final he sang ‘Lost Stars’. This song has been released as his 1st solo single and has charted this week at Number 6. McCrorie is 30 years old and comes from Falkirk, the song is this week’s number 1 in his native Scotland. The song ‘Lost Stars’ was featured in the 2013 film ‘Born Again’ and also on the soundtrack Album where 2 versions were recorded, one by actress Keira Knightley and the other from Adam Levine who is the lead singer of Maroon 5.
New dance music gives us this week’s 3rd new entry at Number 17 for Pep and Rash with Rumors.
There is a new entry at Number 22 for Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth with ‘See You Again’, the song is featured on the Soundtrack of the current film’ Fast And Furious 7’. Khalifa is a 27 year old American rapper whose real name is Cameron Thomaz who charts in the UK for a 7th time, he is best known for his Number 5 single in 2010 ‘Black and Yellow’. He was also the featured artist on Maroon 5’s 2012 Number 1 ‘Payphone’. Charlie Puth is 23 years old and is an American singer /songwriter, his only other release to date is a song called ‘Marvin Gaye’ which features vocals from Meghan Trainor and charted at Number 32 in Australia back in February. ‘See You Again’ is the new Number 1 in America this week.
The 5th and final new entry this week is at Number 40 for Meghan Trainor with ‘Dear Future Husband’, it is the 3rd single from her Album called ‘Title’. ‘All About That Bass’ reached Number 1 for 4 weeks last year and the follow up ‘Lips Are Movin’ peaked at Number 2, earlier on this year. All 3 hits were co written with Kevin Kadesh who also produced all 3 songs
As always enjoy the music.
