After playing 2nd fiddle to Wiz Khalifa for the last 2 weeks, Omi finally takes over at Number 1 with ‘Cheerleader’, becoming the 7th different song to top the charts this year.Omi originally recorded and released the song back in 2012 and it was a hit in Hawaii and his home in Jamaica, after hearing it in 2014 the song was remixed by German music producer Felix Jahen and since then it has become a worldwide hit. The song has now topped the charts in 14 countries including Australia, Germany and the Netherlands, it is yet to break in America where to date its peak position has only been a lowly Number 95.

It was back in 2012 that we last heard from Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepson. Her debut hit ‘Call Me Maybe’ spent 4 weeks at Number 1 in April and May  and was followed later that year when she charted as featured artist on Owl City’s ‘Good Time’(Number 5). Since then things have been quiet, until now, as this week she has the highest new entry at Number 3 with ‘I Really Like You’, it is taken from her forth coming 3rd studio Album to be called’ E.mo-tion’. The video for the song is notable for the appearance of Hollywood superstar Tom Hanks, Jepson co wrote the song with Peter Svennson who was the writer of the hit singles of the Swedish band The Cardigans back in the 1990’s.

Swedish music producer Alesso charts for a 2nd time this year with the new entry at Number 10 called ‘Cool’, in total he has now had 5 top 40 singles. This new track features vocals from Roy English who is the lead singer of American rock group Eye Alaska.’Cool ‘samples a 2010 song from Kylie Minogue called ‘Get Outta My Way’ taken from her ‘Aphrodite’ Album. The video for the song was made at the Venice High School in Los Angles which is famous for being the venue where the film ‘Grease’ was made and also the recording of Britney Spears video ‘Baby One More Time’.

‘I’m An Albatraoz’ is a song that has a novelty feel to it and is a new entry on the UK top 40 this week at Number 25. The artist behind the song is Aron Chupa, he is also 1 of the 5 members of the Electro Dance group called Albatraoz who come from Sweden. All 5 group members also play professional football for Swedish 4th division team Byttorps IF. ‘I’m An Albatraoz’ has already been a big success in Europe having peaked at Number 1 in Denmark and Sweden and Number 2 in Austria and the Netherlands, the song features uncredited vocals from Aron Chupas sister Nora Ekberg.

Born in Bray County Wicklow Ireland Andrew Hozier-Byrne better known by his stage name Hozier now has 2 singles in the top 40 this week , ‘Something New’ is a new entry at Number 36, ‘Take Me To Church’ now in its 40th week on the chart drops 1 place to Number 17. Both songs are taken from his debut Album called ‘Hozier’. The video for the song features actress Natalie Dormer whom fans of ‘Game of Thrones’ will know better as Margaery Tyrell. In his native Ireland ‘From Eden’ (Number 2) and ‘Sedated’ (Number 4)have also charted.

Joshua Adenuga is an English rapper and Grime artist from Tottenham London, he has 1 of the 5 new entries in the top 40 at Number 39 this week with ‘Shutdown’.  His debut Album back in 2007 was called ‘Greatest Hits’ but produced no hit singles, it was the track ‘Rescue Me’ from his 3rd Album ‘Cross My Heart’ which peaked at Number 14 in 2010 that has given him his only top 20 single to date. Although as featured artist he has had a Number 3 hit on the Wiley song ‘Can You Hear Me’ in 2012.

As always enjoy the music.
