‘Uptown Funk’ is the 37th different song to top the UK top 40 this year. Mark Ronson is credited as lead artist on the track and Bruno Mars as featured artist, they both helped co write the track, Ronson also produced it and Mars played drums as well as singing lead vocals. Ronson is one of the world’s most respected record producers who always uses guest artists on all of his single releases, since his 1st hit ‘Ooh Wee’ in 2003 (Number 15) he has now gone on to have a further 7 top 40 singles. Previous to ‘Uptown Funk’ his best known collaboration was with Amy Winehouse on the 2007 Number 2 song ‘Valerie’, Bruno Mars whose real name is Peter Gene Hernandez hits Number 1 for the 5th time, 3 times as lead artist and now twice as featured artist.

In total this week there are 4 new entries and 2 re-entries, with the 2nd highest new song entering at Number 5 for Oliver Heldens featuring Kstewart with ‘Last All Night (Koala)’.Heldens is a 19 year old producer from the Netherlands who had the Number 1 single ‘Gecko (Overdrive) earlier on this year, the song has also been a top 30 hit in Belgium and his home country Holland.

The other song to enter this week’s top 20 is at Number 17 for Bring Me the Horizon with ‘Drown’. They are a Rock/Metal band from Sheffield and formed back in 2004, over the course of their 4 Album releases their sound has mellowed to what would now be described as commercial Rock. ‘Drown ‘will not appear on the forth coming new Album ‘Sempiternal’ which could explain the reason why the song  has given them a 1st ever top 40 song.

The 4th  and final new entry this week is at Number 21 for Fifth Harmony with ‘Boss’, the group consists of 5 females who all auditioned and failed to progress in the 2012 American X Factor. Simon Cowell brought them together as a quintet and they continued in that year’s competition in the groups category eventually finishing 3rd overall. They are yet to have a top 40 single on Billboard and this is their debut UK hit.

There are two re-entries this week’ Ed Sheeran re-climbs 5 places to Number 39 with’ Sing’ and Wizzard climb 17 to Number  35 with their Festive classic ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’. This is the 8th time the song has now been a hit, it peaked at Number 4 on its 1st release back in 1973.

As always enjoy the music.

It is a charity single which tops the chart this week, it is the song ‘Wake Me Up’ by Gareth Malones All Star Choir.
