A new week and a new Number 1.

Adam Dyment better known by his stage name Duke Dumont continues his 100% record. This is his 2nd release and his 2nd Number 1 with ‘I Got U’. After last year’s success with ‘Need U’ this new track heavily samples the Whitney Houston song ‘My Love is Your Love’.

There are a total of 5 new entries’ and 1 re-entry.

New in at Number 6 is ‘Word Up’ from Little Mix, the song is the official charity single for Sports Relief 2014’ it becomes the 8th hit for the group and the 4th time that the song ‘Word Up’ has become a hit. It was originally recorded by Cameo in 1986 and then became a hit for Gun in 1994 and it also charted for Melanie B in 1999.

Example is back with his 12th hit single at Number 14 with ‘Kids Again’. This is the 2nd track from his forthcoming Album ‘Live Life Living’.

The re-entry is at Number 19 for the Human League with ‘Don’t You Want Me’. The song was originally the Christmas Number 1 of 1981, it is thanks to the fans of Aberdeen FC that the song is back in the charts, they sing their own rendition of the song citing their midfield player Peter Pawlett with the lyrics changed to ‘Peter Pawlett Baby’.

One place lower at Number 20 sees this week’s 4th entry from American artist Trey Songz with ‘Na Na’, this is the 3rd time he has charted in the top 40.

Finally new in at Number 37 is London Grammar with ‘Hey Now’. The group originate from Nottingham and their debut Album ‘If You Wait’ released last year to critical acclaim contains this there 5th single release.

With a brand new Number 1 and a total of 8 new entries there’s a lot of change on the new chart.

Dvbbs and Borgeous ft Tinie Tempah debut at the top with ‘Tsunami’.  The song has been a hit in several different countries as an instrumental but hasn’t been released in the UK until now, with a rap added by Tinie Tempah. This is the 4th time TinieTempah has appeared on a Number 1 record.

The second highest new entry is at Number 4 for Enrique Iglesias ft Pitbull with ‘I’m a Freak’ it’s taken from his forth coming Album ‘Sex and Love’ and is his 17th top 40 single.

Flo Rida returns at Number 8 with ‘How I Feel’, the song samples the Nina Simone hit ‘Feeling Good’ and gives Flo Rida his 18th chart entry.

There is a new entry at Number 9 for Pixie Lott with a track called ‘Nasty’ the song samples a 1970s disco song called ‘Dance Across the Floor’ from Jimmy Bo Horne.

Kylie Minogue had her first hit in 1988 with ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ and now 49 hits later she is back with ‘Into the Blue’ at Number 12, the new album is called ‘Kiss Me Once’.

Christina Perri is back with ‘Human’ at Number 14, her most successful single to date was ‘Jar of Hearts’ back in 2010.

The Chainsmokers make Dance music and their single ‘Selfie’ is in at Number 17, this is the 2nd hit single this year to have the title ‘Selfie’ the other was from Nina Nesbitt.

The 8th and final new entry is at  Number 39 for One direction with ‘Midnight Memories’ , the title track of their 3rd Album and is the 3rd single release from the Album.

We have a brand new Number 1.

Londoner Rowan Jones under the alias of Route 94 goes straight in at the top with ‘My Love’, it is his debut single and continues the dominance of commercial house music on the chart. The vocals are supplied by Jess Glynn who has already been to Number 1 this year as the singer on Clean Bandits ‘Rather Be’.

 In total there are 5 new entries.

 The 2nd highest is at Number 7 for Lily Allen with ‘Air Balloon’, this is her 12th hit single and the 3rd from her forth coming May released Album ‘Sheezus’.

 Coldplay release their 6th studio Album in May called ‘Ghost Stories’ and the1st  single from it has charted at Number 10, the song is called ‘Magic’, this is Coldplay’s 19th hit single.

 The 4th new entry is at Number 26 for English Folk/Alternative Rock musician Nick Mulvey, this is his 2nd single and 1st chart hit. He states fellow folk singer Laura Marling as an influence.

 The final new entry is at 36 for Avicci with ‘Addicted To You’, it is the 4th single to be taken from his Album ‘True’, the unaccredited vocals are those of Audra Mae, she is the great grand niece of Judy Garland.

 A special mention to 2 songs this week.

 ‘ Pompeii’ from Bastille first entered the chart in February of 2013, it has been up and down  the top 100 continuously for the past 54 weeks and is currently still hanging on in there at 37 and one of last year’s Number 1 singles ‘Counting Stars’ from One Republic has now spent 32 weeks in the current top 40.

Pharrell Williams may have lost the top spot on the singles chart, but his Album ‘Girl’ has debuted at the top of the Album chart. His single ‘Happy’ has now topped the charts in 20 different countries.

Pharrell Williams with ‘Happy’ becomes only the 3rd ever song to re-climb to Number 1 three times. 

Getting to the top for the 1st time on December 29th last year and spending 1 week there, being replaced by Pitbull and then re-climbing back to the top1 week later for a 2 week run, then losing the top spot to Clean Bandit for 4 weeks and Sam Smith for 1 week and then yesterday reclaiming the Number 1 position.

There are3 new entries this week, all have entered in the top 10 and there are 2 re-entries.

 The highest new entry is at Number 6 for Dutch musician Tiesto whose birth name is Tijs Verwest,  this is his 7th hit under his own name and his 1st top 10 single, the song is called ‘Red Lights’.

New in at Number 7 is Foxes her birth name is Louisa Allen and she comes from Southampton. Her song is called ‘Let Go for Tonight’, her previous successes were a Number 12 hit last year with ‘Youth’ and as Featured Artist on ‘Clarity’ by Zedd and ‘Right Here’ by Rudimental.

The final new entry is at Number 10 from Paloma Faith with ‘Can’t Rely on You’, this is the 1st single from her 3rd Album  called ‘A Perfect Contradiction’ and is her 5th hit single to date.

 Kid Inc ft Chris Brown with ‘Show Me’ is back in at Number 35 and finally back at Number 26 is Starship with ‘We Built This City’, originally peaking at Number 12 in 1985, this song has been rejuvenated by its use in an Advert for 3 Mobile.

Becoming the 4th different Number 1 single of the Year we have a new chart topper in the form of ‘Money on My Mind’ from Sam Smith.

He is 21 years old and comes from Bishops Stortford England. This is Smiths 3rd taste of chart success, his 2 previous entries have been as featured Artist doing vocals on ‘Latch’ for Disclosure which peaked at Number  11 and also vocals for Naughty Boy on’ La La La’ peaking at Number 1 both last year.

There are 5 new entries in total, the 2nd highest being at Number 4.

Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino are a singer song writing duo who go by the name of A Great Big World, the track ‘Say Something’ is their 2nd single and 1st hit. After hearing the song Christina Aguilera got in touch with the duo and asked if she could record a version with them, the song has already been to Number 1 in Canada and Australia.

How many twins can you name who have had chart success together as a duo?, well a pair have charted at  Number 17, they are Tegan and Sara Quin from Calgary Canada, the song ‘Everything Is Awesome’ is taken from the soundtrack of the new computer  animated  comedy the ‘Lego  Movie’. Also featured on the song are comedy group the Lonely Island.

One of the musical performances on the Brits this past week was the collaboration between Bastille and Rudimental .it is a mix of the 2 hits ‘Pompeii’ and ‘Waiting all Night’. This is new in at Number 21.

The fifth new entry is at Number 32 for London Boy Band M.A.D   ‘with Fame and TV’ this is their 2nd single after ‘Toyboy’ charted at Number 37 last year.

Due to the Brits effect there are six re-entries , Bastille with ‘Pompeii’ at  Number 20, Beyonce with ‘XO’  at  Number 23 ,John Newman with’ Love me Again’ at  Number 33, Ellie Goulding with ‘Burn’ at  Number 35,  Lorde with ‘Royals’ at Number 36 and finally at  Number 39 the Arctic Monkeys with ‘Do I wanna know’.

Lots of changes on the new chart this week as we welcome 9 new hits.

First of all its congratulations again to Clean Bandit who hold the top spot for a 4th week with ‘Rather Be’.

There are 2 new entries in the top 10.

Making its debut at Number 2 is Russian dDJ/producer Zedd  with ‘Stay The Night’, the song features vocals from Hayley Williams she is lead vocalist with the rock group Paramour. Zedd’s real name is Anton Zaslavski

The second highest new entry is at Number 4 for the undisputed king of Electronic Dance Music David Guetta with ‘Shot Me Down’. The song is built around Cher’s 1966 Number 3 hit ‘Bang Bang’ written by Sonny Bono. In 2005 the Audio Bullys did a Dance version of the same song.

 The 3rd new entry is at Number  11 for Le Youth whose real name is Wes James he is an American Dance music producer, the song is called ‘Dance With Me’ and follows up last year’s hit ‘Cool’.’Dance With Me’ samples the TLC hit ‘No Scrubs’.

 There is 1 more new entry in the top 20 and that comes in at Number 15 for Dapper Laughs with ‘Proper Moist’. Dapper Laughs is the stage name of cockney comedian Daniel O’Rielly.

 In at  Number 28 is the romantic ballad from John Legend called ‘All Of Me’, the song has already been Number 1 in Australia, Belgium and the Netherlands. This is the 4th chart hit for Legend and is taken from his 5th studio Album ‘Love In The Future’.

New in at  Number 33 is ‘Roll Of Honour’ by Irish Brigade, the song commemorates the 10 IRA and INLA  hunger strikers who died during the 1981 Irish hunger strike in Northern Ireland.The song is written by Gerry O’Glacain.

 The next new song to enter is at Number 34 for American Indie Rock band American authors with ‘Best Day Of My Life’ this is their 2nd single release and is taken from their debut Album ‘Oh What a Life’.

 The 8th new entry is at Number 36 for Ellie Goulding with ‘Goodness Gracious’, the song becomes the 6th hit single from her ‘Halcyon Days’ deluxe version Album.

 Finally new at Number 40 is 19year old Scottish singer songwriter Nina Nesbitt with ‘Selfies’, this is her 2nd charting song as she also had a hit last year reaching Number 21  with ‘Stay Out’.

To stay at Number 1 for 3 weeks is quite a feat in this day and age but that’s what Clean Bandit with ‘Rather Be’ have achieved. In the whole of last year only 2 songs spent longer at the top, ‘Blurred Lines’ and ‘Get Lucky’.

On the chart this week there are 3 new entries and 3 re-entries.

The highest entry is at Number 3 for DJ Fresh ft Jay Fay and Ms Dynamite with ‘Dibby Dibby Sound’. Daniel Stein is the birth name of DJ Fresh he is 36 years old and was born in Sussex. This is his 7th top 40 Single and is taken from his upcoming as yet untitled 4th Album to be released later on this year.

A sure-fire future hit will be ‘Stay the Night’ from Russian musician/producer Zedd. A pre release cover version by DJ Stay the Night is the 2nd highest new entry this week at Number 24.

The other new song is at Number 38 for Lorde with the song ‘Team’. It is the 2nd hit from the’ Pure Heroine’ album. Her Number 1 single from last year, ‘Royals’ is currently at Number 34 and is spending its 16th week on the chart.

The highest re-entry is at Number 21 for Rihanna with ‘What Now’. It was originally released with several remixes last August and became a minor top 40 hit. The reason it has charted again this week is because of its use in ITV programme advertising, having been heard many times over the last week.

Back in at Number 29 is Disclosure with ‘F For You’. The song peaked at Number 20 late last year with vocals from Howard Laurence, it was re-issued on February 5th this time with new vocals from Mary J Bilge.

The other re-entry is at Number 30 for American Indie Rock Band Imagine Dragons with ‘Demons’. It is one of their 5 hit singles from their debut album ‘Night Visions’.

Clean Bandit get a 2nd week at Number 1 with ‘Rather Be’ and the biggest climber is One Republics ‘If I Lose Myself’, which climbed 21 places to Number 11.

The highest new entry is at Number 2 for Will I Am ft Miley Cyrus, French Montana and Wiz Khalifa with ‘Feeling Myself’. The track will appear on his upcoming deluxe version of the Will Power album.

The 2nd highest new entry is at 4 for Dance Duo, Gorgon City, with ‘Ready for Love’. They are Kye Gibbon and Matt Scot and they come from North London. The song features MNEK whose real name is Uzoechi Emenike. He is also from London.

In at Number 5 this week is Kathleen Brien. better known as Katy B, with ‘Crying for No Reason’. It is the 2nd track released from her upcoming 2nd Album ‘Little Red’. The song was co-written by Guy Chambers who is responsible for many of Robbie williams hits, including Angels.

The 4th new entry is at Number 23 for Chris Malinchak. This is his 2nd hit and follows up last Mays Number 2 hit ‘So Good to Me’. The new offering is ‘If U Got It’ and samples the Motown classic ‘I’m Gonna Make you Love Me’.

The final new entry is at 34 for Sophie Ellis-Bextor with ‘Young Blood’. It is taken from her Album ‘Wanderlust’.

Katy Perry re-enters the Top 40 at 19 with ‘Dark Horse’ ft Juicy J and Imagine Dragons re-enter at 32 with ‘Radioactive’ – this is probably to do with their appearance at the Grammys.

Due to him appearing in Channel 5’s Big Brother, Dappy has charted at Number 40 with ‘No regrets’. This song peaked at Number 1 in September of 2011. Finally, it’s a welcome back to the Weather Girls at 31 with the classic ‘It’s raining men’.

This Week sees the 1250th UK Number 1 single since the music charts began back on November 14th 1952.

It is a big congratulations to Clean Bandit who have achieved this feat when their song ‘Rather Be’ reached the top spot.

Clean Bandit members Jack Patterson, Grace Chatto, and Milan Smith met while studying at Cambridge University. Luke Patterson, brother of Jack, is the 4thmember. This is their 4th single release. They charted at Number 17 last April with ‘Mozart’s House’, the only other occasion they have featured in the top 40.

Pharrell Williams slips back one place to Number 2 with ‘Happy’, this means that the 2nd highest new entry is at Number 3 for The Vamps with ‘Wildheart’. This is their 2nd single. Their previous single, ‘Can we Dance’, peaked at Number 2 last October.

The third new song in the top 10 is ‘Brave heart’ from Shereen, Amira, Jess and Asami collectively known as ‘Neon Jungle’. This is also their second single following on from ‘Trouble’, which reached Number 12 last September. Their Debut Album, to be released shortly, includes the track ‘Welcome to the Jungle’. The song gave the Band the idea for its name.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are a new entry at Number 27 with ‘White Walls’. This is the 4th single from the 2012 Album ‘The Heist’. Their best known song to date is ‘Thrift Shop’, a UK Number 1 last February. It was also the biggest selling song in America last year.

The 3rd single release from Miley Cyrus’s 4th solo Album, ‘Bangerz’, has charted at Number 33. It is the ballad ‘Adore you’. Miley Cyrus is the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus who had a Number 3 single in 1992 with the line dance anthem ‘Achy Breaky heart’.

The sixth and final new entry this week is from One Republic, charting one place higher at Number 32, the song is about Ryan Tedders fear of flying and is called ‘If I Lose Myself Tonight’. This follows on from the success of last year’s Number 1 ‘Counting Stars’.

On the new Top 40 singles chart this Week it’s a 3rd week at the top for Pharrell Williams with ‘Happy’, holding off Pitbull ft Keisha’s ‘Timber’ once again.

In fact the top 4 remain the same as last week with Avicii’s ‘Hey Brother’ at Number 3 and Jason Derulo‘s ‘Trumpets’ staying at Number 4.

There is a big climber at Number 13, with the new Busta Rhymes song ‘Thank You’ climbing twenty five places. He adds his rap to a 1981 song called ‘I want to thank you’, an old Soul song from Alicia Myers.

There are 4 new entries this Week, the highest at Number 5 is from 18 year old Londoner Elyar Fox with ‘Do it all over again’ . What could set him apart from some other teen Pop Stars is that he writes his own material. He has come to the public’s attention through appearances on You Tube.

The second highest new entry is at Number 11 from Columbia’s finest Shakira with ‘Can’t Remember to Forget’ ft Rihanna. This is Shakira’s 11th UK Top 40 single and also the 11th time Rihanna has charted as a Featured Artist.

New entry Number 3 is at 27 for Tinie Tempah ft Labyrinth with ‘Lover Not a Fighter’. The song is the 3rd single to be released from his 2nd Album ‘Demonstration’. The song was also produced by Labyrinth.

The 4th and final new entry is at 37 for Beyonce with ’XO’. This is the 2nd track to chart from Beyonces self titled 5th album. One of the co-writers on the song is Ryan Tedder of ‘One Republic fame’.
