This week on the new top 40 there are just 3 new entries but one of these peaks in the top spot.

The song which becomes the 29th different chart topper this year is called ‘Changing’ and is from Sigma  ft Paloma Faith. Sigma are drum and bass music producers Cameron Edwards and Joe Lenzie who met at Leeds University back in 2006, ‘Changing’ gives them their 2nd Number 1 single this year as ‘Nobody To Love’ topped the chart back in April. Paloma Faith Blomfield is 33 years old and comes from London. To date she has released 3 solo Albums and 13 singles her most successful to date being her latest one which peaked at Number 6 recently called ‘Only Love Can Break Your Heart’ technically this is her 2nd appearance on a Number 1 single as a featured artist as she was part of the Justice Collective who released the charity single ‘He Aint Heavy He’s My Brother’ back in 2012.

Last week’s Number 1 from Calvin Harris, ‘Blame’ slips back one place to Number 2 and last week’s Number 2 is now the new Number 3 for Lilly Wood with ‘Prayer in C’.

The 2nd highest new entry is at Number 4 for Professor Green ft Tori Kelly with ‘Lullaby’. Professor Green is the stage name of British born rapper Stephen Paul Manderson. His soon to be released 3rd Album is to be called ‘Growing Up In Public’ and this is the 1st single taken from it. This new song gives him his 9th top 40 hit his most successful hit to date was a Number 1 back in 2011 with ‘Read All About It’ which featured Emile Sande. Tori Kelly is 21 years old and comes from California, she has released 4 solo singles to date and has appeared as featured artist on a further 4, this is her 1st appearance on the UK top 40.

The other new entry this week is at Number 35 for Hozier with ‘Take Me to Church’. Andrew Hozier-Byrne is 24 years old and comes from Bray, County Wicklow in Ireland he has just released his debut Album called ‘Hozier’ and has already tasted great success in his home country. ‘Take Me to Church’ reached Number 2 last year and 2 other tracks from his debut Album ‘Sedated’ and ‘Eden’ have both been top 5

After spending 2 weeks at Number 1 Lilly Wood drops 1 place to Number 2 with ‘Prayer In C’ making way for the new Number 1 from Calvin Harris with vocals from John Newman,  the song is called  ‘Blame’, it becomes the 28th different chart topper this year .This is the 2nd Number 1 this year for Harris following on the success of ‘Summer’, in total he has now appeared on 7 chart toppers and a total of 20 top 40 singles. John Newman is 24 years old and comes from Settle North Yorkshire, his debut Album last year gave him 2 hit singles that included the Number 1 ‘Love Me Again’, he was also featured artist on the Rudimental chart topper ‘Feel the Love’.

The 2nd new entry is at Number 6 for Ten Walls with ‘Walking With Elephants’,  over  the last couple of years or so they have been building up a following and this is their break through track, it would come under the Deep House banner.

The 3rd new entry is at Number 10 for the latest offering from Chris Brown with ‘New Flame’, the song features contributions from Usher and Rick Ross and is taken from his forth coming 6th Album ‘X’. This is Chris Browns 25th chart entry, Ushers 26th and the 1st time Rick Ross has appeared on the UK top 40.

The 4th and final new entry is at Number 22 for Fall Out Boy with ‘Centuries’, Fall Out Boy are an American rock group from Chicago who formed in 2001, they have to date released 5 studio Albums and 2 live Albums. This is their 9th top 40 single, their biggest success to date occurred back in 2007 when ‘This Aint A Scene, It’s An Arms Race’ peaked at Number 2.

There is also 1 re-entry this week at Number 26 for A Great Big World featuring Christina Aguilera with ‘Say Something’, the song has been as high as Number 4 and it is the 24th hit for Aguilera and the 1st for A Great Big World.

This week we welcome the 25th different Number 1 of the year so far.

The new chart topper is the song ‘Am I Wrong’ from Norwegian based duo Nico and Vinz, the song has already been a worldwide hit peaking at Number 4 in America , Number 2 in Australia, Number 1 in Canada and also has made the top 40 in 18 other countries to date. Nico and Vinz are Nico Seraba and Vincent Dery who formed in 2009 using the name Envy but when’ Am I Wrong’ became a hit they changed their name so as not to cause confusion with the Japanese group also known as Envy.

Last week’s Number 1 single ‘Rude’ by Magic slips down one place to Number 2 and the 2nd highest new entry is at Number 3 for One Republic with ‘Love Runs Out’. In 2013 One Republic released their 3rd studio Album called ‘Native’ which has spurned 5 hit singles to date with ‘Love Runs Out’ being the  5th ,  the Album includes last year’s Number 1 ‘Counting Stars’.

New in at Number 34 is 29 year old Londoner Jessie Ware with ‘Tough Love’, this is her 1st top 40 single and the song is the title track of her upcoming 2nd Album. Her sister Hannah is a film and television actress and her father is Panorama reporter John Ware who is also a journalist for The Guardian.

The final new entry is at Number 40 for Maroon 5 with It ‘Was Always You’, the track is taken from their 5th Album ‘V’. The song is only available to those who have pre ordered the new Album on I Tunes. The opening song on the Album is ‘Maps’ which has not had a UK release to date but has been a worldwide hit elsewhere.

On the new top 40 this week there are a total of 6 new entries, one of them debuting at the top.

The 23rd different Number 1 of this year so far is from Cheryl Cole ft Tinie Tempah with ‘Crazy Stupid Love’. Cole has now had 4 UK solo chart toppers and this ties her as the most successful British female artist alongside Geri Halliwell and Rita Ora. The song gives Tinie Tempah his 3rd Number 1 as a featured artist and 2nd this year following on from ‘Tsunami’ with Dvbbs.

New to the top 40 at Number 2 is Magic with ‘Rude’. Magic are a Canadian reggae band who are influenced by 80s super group The Police. ‘Rude’ is the debut release from them and it is currently Number 1 in America, their lead singer Nasri Atweh has had previous success writing for others including the Chris Brown song ‘Don’t Judge Me’.

The 3rd new entry into the top 10 is from Charli XCX with ‘Boom Clap’ at Number 6. As the lead artist on a single this is her 1st hit but she has had 2 notable previous successes as featured artist, on last year’s UK  Number 1 with Icona Pop on ‘I Love It’ and this year’s Billboard chart topper with Iggy Azalea on ‘Fancy’.

New in at Number 12 is the Route 94 remix of the 1994 song ‘Always’ by MK ft Alana, in the UK the song originally peaked at Number 69. MK is the stage name of Marc Kinchen and in the last 20 years he has remixed songs by Celine Dione, Pitbull and Storm Queen amongst many others, Route 94 topped the chart earlier on this year with ‘My Love’.

Neon Jungle score a hit for the 4th time with the ballad ‘Louder’ new in at Number 14. All 4 hits are taken from their debut Album ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, they had their 1st hit last year with the Number 12 single ‘Trouble’. This year ‘Bravehear’t peaked at Number 4 and the single ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ at Number 7.

The 6th and final new entry is at Number 18 for X Ambassadors and Jamie N Commons ft Jay Z with ‘Jungle’. The X Ambassadors are an American alternative rock band from New York while Jamie N Commons was born in Bristol but emigrated to Chicago with his parents when he was 6 years old, this is the 13th time Jay Z has now appeared on a top 40 UK single as a featured artist

For the 3rd week in a row there are only 4 new entries, there is also one re-entry this week.

We now have had 22 different songs top the UK top 40 this year with Manchester boy band Rixton taking the honours this week with ‘Me and My Broken Heart’. The song has already sold in excess of 500,000 copies in America peaking on Billboard at Number 12.The lead singer of the group is Jake Roche whose parents are no strangers to chart success themselves, his mother is Colleen Nolan who of course was a member of the Nolan sisters and his father is Eastenders actor Shane Richie who had a Number 2 single back in 2003 with his cover of the Wham song ‘I’m Your Man’ which was recorded for Children in need.

The 2nd highest new entry is at Number 6 for Nicole Scherzinger with the 1st track to be taken from her as yet unreleased, untitled 2nd solo Album. As a solo artist this is her 8th top 40 single, she has also charted another 4 times as a featured artist.

20 year old Ella Eyre has a new entry at Number 16 with’ If I Go’, she is one of the co-writers of the song and it is her 2nd single release and 1st top 40 hit. She has tasted chart success as lead singer on last year’s Number 1 with Rudimental ‘Waiting All Night’.

The final new entry is at Number 30 for Kove with ‘Way We Are’, the song features Melissa  Steel, Kove is the stage name of music producer James Rockhill, he has done remixes for Chase and Status, John Newman and Bastille amongst others, this is his 6th single release and his 1st chart hit.

Finally the song which has re-entered the chart is at Number 37 for Vance Joy with ‘Riptide’, back in February it peaked inside the top 10, It is 37 weeks since it originally entered the UK chart.

Only 4 new entries this week but 2 of them are inside the top 10.

There is a new chart topper for the 21st time this year with the latest offering from Wil.i.am ft Cody Wise with ‘It’s My Birthday’, the song was going to be called ‘Birthday’ but as to avoid confusion with the recent Katy Perry song with that name it was changed.Will.i.am has now appeared on 10 different Number 1 singles, 5 with The Black Eyed Peas, 3 as a solo artist and 2 as featured artist with Usher and The Script. Cody wise is an American singer and this is his 1st chart entry.

The 2nd highest entry is at Number 6 for Jess Glynne with ‘Rght Here’, this is her debut single it was co-written by Glynne and was produced by Gorgon City. She has already been to Number 1 twice this year as featured artist on Clean Bandits ‘Rather Be’ and Route 94s ‘My Love’.

The 3rd new entry is from MKTO at Number 24 with ‘Classic’, MKTO are American duo Malcolm Kelley and Tony Oller, this is their 1st UK hit, and the song has already been top 10 in Australia and New Zealand and top 20 in the USA.

The final new entry is in at Number 38 for Matrix and Futurebound featuring Tanya Lacey with ‘Don’t Look Back’, this is the 2nd time in 2014 they have charted having reached Number 7 earlier on this year with ‘control’.

The biggest climber on the chart this week is from The Vamps who climb 35 places to Number 4 with ‘Somebody to You’.

It is also worth mentioning the 2 songs that have been in the top 40 for every single week of this year, Pharrell Williams with ‘Happy’ re-climbs 3 places to Number 16 in his 34th week in total and Idina Menzel drops 4 places to Number 25 on her 31st week.
