The Sisters Of Mercy were formed in Leeds in 1980,the only constant member throughout has been singer/songwriter Andrew Eldritch.
The title of this song refers to Lucretia Borgia of the prominent Borgia family of the Italian Renaissance,who were notorious for their ruthless political tactics and alleged crimes.Eldritch wrote the song for band mate and bass player Patricia Morrison who Eldritch said ‘She always strikes me as a Lucretia type person.’
In 1996 Morrison by now a member of the Punk Rock band The Damned married their lead singer David Vanian.

The IRA (Irish Republican Party) is a militant group that was determined to remove British troops from Northern Island.On August 31st,1994,just a few weeks after the song was released,the IRA declared a ceasefire after 25 years of conflict.
The song was written and sung by Dolores O’Riordan who died on January 18th,2018.With the Cranberries she released seven studio Albums and a further two as a solo artist.

The Proclaimers are the Scottish twins Craig and Charlie Reid.
The song was mainly written by Craig who said ‘I can remember sitting at the piano and the chords just came to me,i reckon i just wrote the whole thing in 45 minutes.’
The song reached Number 3 on Billboard in America in 1993 after being featured in the movie ‘Benny and Joon,’becoming their sole US hit.
In March 2007 The Proclaimers teamed up with comedians Peter Kay and Matt Lucas to release a new version for the charity ‘Comic Relief,’the song went on to spend three weeks at Number 1.
