THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
573-Jackie DeShannon-When You Walk In The Room.
1963-Has never charted in the UK.
Best Bit-At 0.5.One of the most recognisable riffs of the 1960’s. Even Lennon and McCartney would have been proud to have written this.
This is the original version by the song’s author Jackie DeShannon. There are many well known cover versions by the likes of Agnetha Faltskog,Status Quo and most notably The Searchers who took the song to Number 3 in the UK in 1964.
Jackie DeShannon was one of the first female singer/songwriters of the Rock ‘N’ Roll era, other notable songs she has written include ‘Put A Little Love In Your Heart’,(Al Green & Annie Lennox)’Breakaway'(Tracey Ullman) and the Billboard Number 1 ‘Bette Davis Eyes'(Kim Carnes.)

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
574-Placebo-Nancy Boy.
1997-Number 4 single.
Best Bit-At 1.34.Co-writer of the song Brian Molko calls the lyrics ‘obscene.’
Placebo were formed in London in 1994 by Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal, they were soon joined by Robert Schultzberg.
‘Nancy Boy’ refers to a man who is very feminine, the lyrics mention the man putting on makeup and perfume in his room.
Molko said,’I’m questioning people’s reasons for sleeping with someone of the same sex.In the same way that heroin is very hip today, being bisexual seems to be very chic. It’s an exploration into somebody’s misogyny yet heartfelt. It’s angry, nasty, insulting and completely politically incorrect.’
‘And it all breaks down at the role reversal got the muse in my head she’s universal.’

Blackberry Way is often cited as an answer song to the Beatles Penny Lane.Roy Wood admitted the influence of Penny Lane on his song,’We were all very influenced by what The Beatles were doing because they were the best song writers around.’
‘So now I’m standing on the corner lost in the things that i say what am i supposed to do now.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
576-Sex Pistols-God Save The Queen.
1977-Number 2 single.
Best Bit-At 2.30.When is a Number 1 single not a Number 1 single?
The records lyrics,as well as it’s sleeve were controversial back in 1977,leading to the BBC refusing to play the song. The songs real meaning is an attack on the treatment of working class people in England in the 1970’s by the UK Government.
The single peaked at Number 2 being kept off the top by Rod Stewart,(The First Cut Is The Deepest,) but it is a widely held belief that those in charge were rigging the chart on the week of Queen Elizabeth’s Silver Jubilee.
The Sex Pistols were signed to A&M records when they recorded this. The record label dropped the band just as this was released, pulling all the singles. The ones which slipped through became valuable collectors items.
In 2011 Record Collector magazine compiled it’s list of the top 50 most collectable records and this song is top of the list with a probable worth of a least £10000.
‘God save the Queen,we mean it man we love our Queen.’

1972-Number 3 single.
Best Bit-At 2.34.The vocals on this song are provided by the late Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister. The last song he wrote as a member of Hawkwind was called Motorhead.
Silver Machine was written by Hawkwind band members Dave Brock who wrote the lyrics and Bob Calvert who wrote the music. The lyrics were inspired by an Alfred Jarry short story called ‘How To Construct A Time Machine.’However rather than writing about a ‘Cosmic space travel machine,’Brock made it about his new silver racing bike.
‘It flies out of a dream it’s antiseptically clean you’re gonna know where I’ve been.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
578-Public Enemy-Fight The Power.
1989-Number 29 single.
Best Bit-At 0.23.A lot of adolescent Rappers boast about their sexual conquests,or how much money they have. This group show us how good Rap really can be.
In 1989 film director Spike Lee wanted an ‘anthem’ for the soundtrack to his film ‘Do The Right Thing,’he approached Chuck D of Public Enemy who came up with this.
Chuck D explained what Fight The Power means ‘It’s not about fighting authority-it’s not that at all,it’s about fighting abuse of power.’
‘1989 the number, another summer, sound of the funky drummer, music hitting your heart ’cause i know you got soul.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
579-Camelphat & Elderbrook-Cola.
2017-Number 18 single.
Best Bit-At 2.53.To say that 2017 wasn’t a great year for new music would be an understatement,(but maybe in twenty years or so people will look back on that period more generously with the passing of time,) but this Dance track would stand up to scrutiny in any decade.
The music was written by Dave Whelan and Mike Di Scala who collaborate together as Camelphat. The lyrics are written and sung by Alexander Kotz, known professionally as Elderbrook.
There is controversy surrounding the lyrics, with some people interpreting the song as being about a female who has had her drink spiked, but Elderbrook says it is about a girl who has too many drinks before going out for the night.
‘Got ready for the night and she’s heading for the lights.’
