Coati Mundi and Kid Creole frontman August Darnell were both members of 1970s disco outfit Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band who had success in 1976 when their song ‘Cherche La Femme’ reached Number 26 on Billboard.
In 1980 Mundi and Darnell formed Kid Creole and the Coconuts taking their name from the 1958 Elvis Presley film ‘King Creole.’
The original Coconuts,a trio of often skimpy-attired backing vocalists,were led by Darnell’s then-wife Adrina Kaegi,the Coconuts line up has changed personnel many times over the years.
