THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
545-Alvin Stardust-My Coo Ca Choo.
1973-Number 2 single.
Best Bit-At 1.20.I can only hope that being called a ‘Coo Ca Choo’ is a term of endearment.
The song was originally written and performed by Peter Shelley, (not to be confused with Pete Shelley, lead singer of The Buzzcocks.) Shelley had no ambition to be a ‘Glam Rock’ star,so when My Coo Ca Choo was becoming successful he had to find someone to front the song and become Alvin Stardust. That someone was Bernard Jewry who had tasted chart success in the early 60’s as Shane Fenton. He dyed his hair, wore black clothing and one black glove, the image of Alvin Stardust was born.
My Coo Ca Choo was a success worldwide, notably spending seven weeks at Number 1 in Australia.
‘Tom Cat! why’ know where it’s at come on lets go to my flat lay down ‘n groove on the mat.’

547-Cerrone-Supernature.
1978-Number 8 single.
Best Bit-At 8.08.Hot Gossip performing to the song on The Kenny Everett Show, lots of ‘naughty bits.’
Marc Cerrone was born in 1952 in Vitry-sur-Seine near Paris and although not a household name is considered one of the most influential Disco producers of the 1970’s.
Supernature has an environmental theme, imagining a future in which the use of artificial chemicals in agriculture has caused ‘creatures down below’ to emerge and take revenge against mankind.
The lyrics were written by ‘New Wave/Post Punk’ artist Lene Lovich who achieved two top 20 singles in 1979 with ‘Lucky Number’ and ‘Say When.’The vocals were sung by unaccredited singer Chi-Chi Favelas.

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
548-Chuck Berry-Maybellene.
1955-Has never charted in the UK.
Best Bit-At 1.06.After doing my research,it appears that ‘Back To The Future’ got their facts wrong.
This is one of the most influential songs in the development of Rock music.Chuck Berry had heard the 1938 song ‘Ida Red’ by Bob Wills on the radio and that gave him the inspiration for this song.
Berry refined and developed Rhythm and Blues into the major elements that made Rock ‘N’ Roll distinctive.Writing lyrics that focused on teen life and consumerism and developing a music style that included guitar solos and showmanship.
Many Pop stars have recorded all their best work by the age of 29,but this was the age that Chuck Berry began his illustrious career.
‘Oh Maybellene why can’t you be true you’ve started back doing the things you used to do.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
549-Bruce Springsteen-Born To Run.
1975-Did not chart.When re-released in 1987 reached Number 16.
Best Bit-At 3.04.There are more words in some of his individual songs than some artists have in an whole Album!
Springsteen played the song live for the first time in 1974,Rock critic Jon Landau was at the show and wrote,’I saw Rock ‘N’ Roll’s future,’Landau eventually became Springsteen’s manager.
Springsteen wrote the lyrics in his home in New Jersey. He recalled,’One day i was playing my guitar on the edge of the bed and the words born to run came to me.At first i thought it was the name of a movie or something I’d seen on a car.I liked the phrase because it suggested a cinematic drama that i thought would work with the music that I’d been hearing in my head.’
‘In the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway American dream at night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
551-Kings Of Leon-The Bucket.
2004-Number 16 single.
Best Bit-At 0.27.It’s pronounced bucket,not bouquet.
The Kings Of Leon are brothers Caleb,Nathan and Jared Followill and their cousin Matthew Followill, the bands name comes from their grandfather who was called Leon.
Caleb wrote part of the song about Jared, who was eighteen at the time. It’s basically Caleb’s observations about Jared dealing with fame and the things that would get on his nerves. It’s also about brotherly love as in the songs lyrics,’I’ll be the one to show you the way.’
‘Eighteen,balding,star.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
552-Thompson Twins-Love On Your Side.
1983-Number 9 single.
Best Bit-At 1.18.’I’ve played you all my favourite records.’They are possibly referring to a previous single called ‘In The Name Of Love.’
The Thompson Twins took their name from the two detectives Thompson and Thompson in the comic strip The Adventures Of Tintin.
The song was recorded by the most recognised lineup of Tom Bailey,Joe Leeway and Alannah Currie.
The original lyric was written by Currie from the female perspective. It was based on her personal experience, but because she wasn’t the lead singer they changed it to make it come from a man’s perspective.
The song became the first of their ten top forty singles in the UK between 1983-1985.
‘Then i find myself going through the same old rhapsody.rap boy rap.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
553-Freda Payne-Band Of Gold.
1970-Number 1 single.
Best Bit-At 1.39. It sounds like Motown,it looks like Motown,it smells like Motown,in fact the only thing that’s not Motown is the record label it was recorded on.
This was released on the ‘Invictus’ record label which Brian Holland,Lamont Dozier and Eddie Holland formed after they left Motown in 1968.The three of them together with Ron Dunbar wrote the song, members of the Motown house band The Funk Brothers played on the track.
The songs lyrics are open to interpretation, some think it is about an impotent man, while others think it is about a frigid woman.Freda Payne was reluctant at first to record the song, she thought it was about a woman who was a virgin or sexually naive and felt it was more suitable for a teenager.
We kissed after taking vows but that night on our honeymoon we stayed in separate rooms.’
