‘Controversy’ was also the title of his forth studio Album released in 1981.
Prince wrote and produced the song as well as playing all the instruments,the female backing vocals are provided by Lisa Coleman.The song addresses speculation about Prince at that time,such as his sexuality,gender,religion and racial background and how he could not understand the curiosity surrounding him.Towards the middle of the song he recites the ‘Lords Prayer’ in full,which angered some who said it was blasphemous.probably adding even more- controversy.

Best Bit-At 0.01.There is probably no other song that is instantly known by two different titles,some call it ‘I Feel Good’ and some call it ‘I Got You.’
James Brown(see also best songs 880 and 349) wrote the song in 1962 and gave it to one of his backing singers Yvonne Fair(see also best songs 480) to record as a single,back then it was called ‘I Found You,’ it met with little success.
In 1964 Brown recorded an early version of the song with a different arrangement.This version can be heard in the 1965 film ‘Ski Party’ in which Brown lip syncs his performance.It was intended to be released as a single but was withdrawn due to a court order from ‘King Records’ with whom Brown was in a contract dispute with at the time.
The song has appeared in numerous television and film soundtracks over the years,most notably in the 1987 film ‘Good Morning,Vietnam’ starring the late Robin Williams.

Best Bit-At 4.13.I was rather hoping the word ‘Camisra’ had an exciting or mysterious meaning to go with such a wonderful song,but it appears it is no more than a made up word.
The man behind the name is Paul Newman,he was born in 1971 in Blackpool,England,as well as the pseudonym ‘Camisra’ he also performs as ‘Tall Paul.’
Newman started out in 1985 in a nightclub owned by his father called ‘Turnmills,’from there he has gone on to perform around the world including London,Brazil and Ibiza.
As Tall Paul he has charted in the top 40 three times in the UK,the most successful hit being his 1997 Number 12 single ‘Rock Da House.’Between 1997-1998 he recorded under the name Camisra,once again charting on three occasions.He is also a much sought after producer,one of his best known remixes is the Stone Roses Fools Gold 1995 remix.

Best Bit-At 0.52.In 1957 Elvis Presley said,’A lot of people seem to think I started this business,but Rock ‘N’ Roll was here a long time before I came along.Lets face it I can’t sing it like Fats Domino can,I know that.’
Blueberry Hill was written in 1940,with music by Vincent Rose and lyrics from Larry Stock and Al Lewis.It was recorded six times that year by the some of the best known orchestras of the period including Glen Miller and Sammy Kaye.
In 1949 Louis Armstrong took his version to Number 29 on Billboard and it was his recording that gave Fats Domino the inspiration for his version.
Fats Domino(February 26,1928-October 24,2017) was one of the pioneers of Rock ‘N’ Roll,he has sold in the region of 65 million records,his 1949 song ‘The Fat Man'(see best songs 617) is widely regarded as the first million selling Rock ‘N’ Roll record.

New Rose was written by the bands guitarist Brian James and produced by Nick Lowe who would go on to produce for Elvis Costello.The song is about the emergence of a new scene,a new fashion,a new culture and of course a new genre of music that was happening in 1976 which was to be coined ‘Punk Rock’ by the journalist Caroline Coon.
The Damned(see also best songs 515) were formed in London in 1976 by Dave Vanian(vocals) Brian James(guitar) Captain Sensible(see also best songs 833)(bass) and Rat Scabies(drummer.)
At the very start of the song Vanian says ‘Is she really going out with him,’ this is a tribute to the Shangri-Las 1964 classic ‘Leader Of The Pack'(see also best songs 331.)

Best Bit-At 2.27.The song has been recorded in several different languages,in Italy it is ‘II Mare,’ in Belgium,’De Zee.’German speaking countries call it ‘Das Meer,’ in Russia it is known as ‘Volna’ and in English speaking countries it is called ‘Beyond The Sea.’
La Mer(in English,the sea) was written by French composer Charles Trenet,(18 May,1913-19 February,2001.)
Trenet has said he wrote the lyrics in 1929 as a poem but the tune didn’t come to him until 1943 while travelling by train between Montpellier and Perpignan,he was gazing out the window at the Etang de Thau,a lagoon in the south of France.
The lyrics of La Mer talk about the sea which greatly differ from the English lyrics(Beyond The Sea) written by Jack Laurence who wrote his version as a romantic love song.The most famous recording is sung by Bobby Darin who took the song to Number 8 in the UK in 1959.

My Baby Just Cares For Me is a Jazz standard written by the ‘Great American Songbook’ writing team of Walter Donaldson(1893-1947) and Gus Kahn(1886-1941) for the 1930 film ‘Whoopee!’The song became the signature tune for Eddie Cantor who sang it in the movie.
Nina Simone was born Eunice Kathleen Waymon(February 21,1933-April 21,2003) and recorded her version of the song for her debut Album ‘Little Girl Blue’ in 1958.The song remained relatively obscure until it was used in a UK television commercial for ‘Chanel No.5’ perfume in 1987.
To follow up the exposure record companies fought over the rights to release the song with ‘Charly Records’ winning the battle.Simone who always had a tenuous relationship with record labels was outraged claiming she didn’t receive any royalties.’They went behind my back and stole from each other like I was a slave.They took me and sold me from one record company to another because they couldn’t deal with me openly.’
