THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
305-Run-DMC featuring Aerosmith-Walk This Way.
1986-Number 8 single.
Best Bit-At 0.43.’Ebony and Ivory living together in perfect harmony.’
This song led the way in the fusing of Hip-Hop Music and Hard Rock, influencing bands such as The Red Hot Chili Peppers,Linkin Park,Faith No More and many, many more.
Run-DMC had been rapping over this songs intro when producer Rick Rubin suggested a collaboration with the songs writers Aerosmith, neither party were sure if it would work and were pleasantly surprised when it took off.
By the mid 1980’s Aerosmith were struggling, partly through their drug abuse to get back to the success of the 1970’s when this song in it’s original form had given them a Billboard top 10 single.
Run-DMC were already acknowledged as pioneers of Hip-Hop and it was this collaboration that brought them to the attention of a much wider audience.
The songs video was the first Hip-Hop video to receive constant play on MTV and is now considered a classic of the medium.
In 2007 the British girl groups Girls Aloud and the Sugababes recorded a cover version as the official Comic Relief charity single which reached Number 1 in the UK.
‘I was a high school loser never made it with a lady,’til the boys told me somethin’ I missed.

By 1968 Pete Townshend(see also best songs 926 and 891) felt that The Who’s shelf life was coming to an end and if he didn’t take them in a different direction they may split. For the bands forth Album,’Tommy,’ Townshend wrote a concept rock opera that tells the story about a ‘deaf, dumb and blind boy,’his life experiences and his relationship with his family.
Townshend came up with the concept of Tommy after being introduced to the work of the Indian spiritual leader Meher Baba(1894-1969) and attempted to translate Baba’s teachings into music.
‘Tommy’ was performed in a 1971 production by Washington based ‘Seattle Opera.’It was made into a film in 1975 and a Broadway musical in 1992.
In the 1975 film Elton John sang Pinball Wizard,it was subsequently released as a single reaching Number 7 in the UK, the only time a cover of a Who song has ever reached the top 10.
