THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
149-Andrea True Connection-More,More,More.
1976-Number 5 single.
Best Bit-At 0.15.In 2002 Andrea True said,’I want to be remembered as a person who gave people pleasure’-then emphasised the words-‘with my music.’
Andrea Marie Truden(July 26,1943-November 7,2011) was an American pornographic actress who changed her career to become a singer in the Disco era.It was while recording a television commercial in Jamaica that she got in touch with her friend Gregg Diamond who followed her to Jamaica to write and record the song along with local musicians who were to become known as the ‘Connection.’The lyrics of the song perhaps take a nod and a wink at her previous career,’Get the cameras rollin,’get the action goin.’
In 1993 Bananarama took their version of the song to Number 24,but the highest charting remake was from ex S Club 7 singer Rachel Stevens who peaked at Number 3 in 2004.The song was also a hit reaching Number 8 in the UK when sampled by Canadian band ‘Len’ in 1999 with the title ‘Steal My Sunshine.’
‘So take me where you want to,boy my heart you steal.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
151-The Prodigy-Firestarter.
1996-Number 1 single.
Best Bit-At 1.52.By a happy coincidence Flint is a material used to start fires.
‘Firestarter’ started out life as an instrumental written by Prodigy band member Liam Howlet. It boasts many samples, the guitar riff was taken from The Breeders song,’S.O.S.,’ The ‘Hey,Hey,Hey’ refrain was borrowed from The Art Of Noise’s ‘Close(To The Edit’) and the drums are sampled from the song ‘Devotion‘ by Ten City, hence there being eight names appearing in the songwriting credits.
This was the first Prodigy(see also best songs 925) song Keith Flint sang on and provided the lyrics for,he said ‘It was so ridiculous because my English isn’t my strong point,so I end up singing in this weird accent(puts on a daft yokel voice,) Oi’m a muckspreaderrrr, but it ended up sounding quite…menacing.’Flint has also said that the lyrics were written about him being onstage,’this is what I am,some of it is a bit deeper than it seems.’
Keith Flint committed suicide on the 4th of March 2019 by hanging himself.
‘I’m the self inflicted,mind detonator,yeah I’m the one infected,twisted animator.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
152-Stevie Wonder-I Wish.
1976-Number 5 single.
Best Bit-At 3.01.The voice that says ‘You nasty boy’ is Wonder’s sister Renee Hardaway.
In this song Stevie Wonder reminisces about his childhood, growing up in the 1950’s and early 1960’s.Despite living in poverty,he looks fondly back on those days and wishes they would come back once more.It was a time when his only worry was ‘for Christmas what would be my toy.’
Because Stevie Wonder(see also best songs 920-843-834-682-570-366 and 205) has been a recording artist since the age of eleven it is easy to be fooled into thinking he is a lot older than he actually is,he had his first Billboard Number 1 with ‘Fingertips-Part 1′ in 1963 at the age of twelve.
The most critically acclaimed part of Wonder’s career is his 1970’s output,in particular the five Albums he released between 1972-1976.’I Wish’ was one of the two Billboard Number 1’s from his most acclaimed Album,’Songs in the Key of Life,’the other chart topper was ‘Sir Duke.’
‘Smokin’ cigarettes and writing something nasty on the wall.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
153-Barry White-You’re the First,the Last,My Everything.
1974-Number 1 single.
Best Bit-At 0.50.It is claimed that millions of people have made love to Barry White….no wonder he died so young.
‘You’re the First’ was co-written by Barry White,Tony Sepe and Peter Radcliffe. The song was originally written as a Country track in the early 1950’s by Peter Radcliffe called ‘You’re the First,You’re My Last,My In-Between,’after hearing it Barry White recorded it as a Disco song retaining most of the musical structure while rewriting the lyrics.
Barry White(September 12,1944-July 4,2003) was born Barry Eugene Carter in Galveston,Texas, his father was Melvin White and his mother was Sadie Carter. His parents never married and it wasn’t until he started recording that he took his fathers name.
Barry White(see also best songs 560 and 476) was overweight for most of his adult life and suffered from related health problems. While undergoing dialysis and awaiting a kidney transplant in May 2003 he suffered a severe stroke,he died on July 4,2003 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles at the age of 58.
In an obituary affectionately referring to White by his familiar nickname,’The Walrus of Love’ a BBC documentary said,’If chocolate fudge cake could sing,it would sound like Barry White.’
You’re my sun,my moon,my guiding star,my kind of wonderful,that’s what you are.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
154-10cc-I’m Not in Love.
1975-Number 1 single.
Best Bit-At 5.17.Band member Kevin Godley said,’Forget instruments,forget guitars,forget drums.Just voices,like a heavenly choir,like a tsunami of voices.’
The song incorporates a large wordless choir, which in fact are the voices of the group Graham Gouldman,Eric Stewart,Kevin Godley and Lol Creme. In the recording studio it was painstakingly built up from chord loops and multi tracks, some 256 vocal dubs were required to complete the lush harmonies behind Eric Stewart’s vocal.
Eric Stewart(see also best songs 663) got the idea for the song after his wife Gloria told him,’You don’t say I love you much anymore,’to which Stewart replied,’If I said it all the time it would sound glib.’Stewart wondered how he could say it without using those actual words,so ‘I’m Not in Love’ became a rhetorical conversation with himself and then a song.
The whispered vocals were provided by record company secretary Kathy Redfern. The band were looking for a certain sound when Redfern entered the studio to quietly tell Stewart he had a phone call. When he heard her voice he knew it was right for the song.
‘Be quiet,big boys don’t cry.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
155-MC5-Kick Out the Jams.
1969-Has never charted in the UK.
Best Bit-At 0.18.What they are saying is,if a song is perfect at 2 minutes don’t ruin it by playing it for 10.
Many thought that ‘Kick Out the Jams’ was a slogan for 1960’s revolution and liberation, but MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer explained the real meaning,’We first used the phrase when we were the house band at a ballroom in Detroit and we played there every week with another band from the area.We got in a habit of screaming at them to get off the stage,to kick out the jams, meaning stop jamming. Now,I think people can get what they like out of it,that’s one of the good things about Rock ‘N’ Roll.’
The MC5 were formed in Detroit,Michigan in 1964,the ‘MC’ stands for motor city and there were five original members. The bands political views and anti-establishment lyrics and music made them forerunners and innovators of Punk Rock which was still many years away in 1969.
‘The wailin’ guitars girl, the crash of the drums, makes you want to keep a rockin’ till the morning comes.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
156-Sam Cooke- A Change Is Gonna Come.
1964-Has never charted in the UK.
Best Bit-At 2.29.The inspiration for this song my friend,is Blowin’ in the Wind.
Sam Cooke wrote this as a protest song to support the civil rights movement.Up to this point most of his songs were middle of the road lighthearted uptempo tunes or romantic ballads, but after hearing Bob Dylan’s ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ he became inspired and couldn’t believe it wasn’t written by a black man.
Some of the lyrics were derived from an incident at a motel in Shreveport,Louisiana where Cooke and some of his friends were turned away for being black.Cooke felt that it was time for him to write a protest song as he felt ashamed he hadn’t done so already.
Sam Cooke(January 22,1931-December 11,1964) was known as the ‘King of Soul,’just some of the artists who were inspired by him include Stevie Wonder,Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding,he has also been called ‘The inventor of Soul Music.’
Cooke died at the age of 33 from a gunshot wound to the chest,Bertha Franklin who shot him claims it was in self defence, while Cook’s acquaintances vehemently deny that story.
‘It’s been a long,a long time coming,but I know a change is gonna come,oh yes it will.’
