The song is about a miner trapped beneath the surface who wants to contact his wife,there was no such event and the lyrics are totally fictional.There was no mining disaster in New York in 1941,but there was one in McIntire,Pennsylvania which killed six people.The song though is probably inspired by the Aberfan tragedy in South Wales in 1966.
Promos of the song were distributed to radio stations with a blank label and the suggestion that it was an English group whose name began with the letter ‘B’,many DJ’s thought it was a new Beatles song and played the track constantly
The Bee Gees have admitted that The Beatles were a big influence on their early career.In turn this song was an influence on David Bowie’s 1969 song ‘Space Oddity’ in style, arrangement and lyrics,as ‘Space Oddity’ is also about a trapped man who is soon to die.

This is a cover version of a German Opera song written in 1925 by Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht.It first appeared in the 1927 play ‘Little Mahagonny’ and next in the 1930 controversial German Operetta ‘The Rise And Fall Of The City Of Mahogany.’The original version from ‘Little Mahagonny’ was sung by Lotte Lenya the wife of Kurt Weill.
In this cover version by The Doors the verse beginning ‘Show me the way to the next little Dollar’ is omitted and the line ‘Show us the way to the next pretty boy’ is changed to ‘Show me the way to the next little girl.’
In 1980 a version by David Bowie charted in the UK at Number 23.

The song is named after the area code 212 which covers the area of Harlem.It samples the track ‘Float My Boat’ which is a House Music song from Belgium born brothers Jef and Toon Martens under the alias Lazy Jay,Jef also produced the song.
Banks said about the song ‘It’s about the journey to fame and stardom,hey I can be the answer,she’s real ambitious,I can do this.’
The video cost $30 to make and is closing in on 200million views.

Best Bit-At 0.01.Reading between the lines I get the impression that Slash feels these lyrics are too soppy for a Guns N’ Roses song.
I am sure that a lot of the best guitar riffs are created quite by chance.Slash was messing around as the band warmed up and with input from the other band members their most successful song was created.

Je Taime…Moi Non Plus(the translation is ‘I Love You-Me Not Anymore) was inspired by a Salvador Dali quote.
Gainsbourg wrote the song in 1967 and recorded it as a duet with French actress Brigitte Bardot,but that version remained unreleased until 1986.
In 1969 Gainsbourg recorded the song again ,this time with the English singer and actress Jane Birkin,it went on to become the first banned song to reach Number 1 in the UK,it was also the first foreign language song to top the chart.
