THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
241-Humanoid-Stakker Humanoid.
1988-Number 17 single.
Best Bit-At 0.53.One of those rare groundbreaking songs.Back in 1988 you felt you were hearing something that would influence what was to come next.
This song introduced ‘Acid House Music’ in to the mainstream.’Acid’ is a sub-genre of House Music, the style was defined primarily by the ‘Rowland TB-303’ electronic synthesizer-sequencer.
Back in 1988 DJ’s were still allowed to chose some of the music for their radio shows and it was Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes who by making this song his record of the week gave exposure to a song that would have ended up being a cult classic instead.
Stakker Humanoid was written and produced by Glasgow born Brian Dougans who in 1988 with Garry Cobain would form the electronic experimental duo ‘The Future Sound Of London’ who are best remembered for the 1992 song ‘Papua New Guinea.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
242-Shel Silverstein-25 Minutes To Go.
1962-Has never been released as a single in the UK.
Best Bit-At 0.20.If your looking for a happy ending I’m afraid you’ve come to the wrong song.
Sheldon Silverstein(September 25,1930-May 10,1999) was an American writer known for his cartoons, songs and children’s books.
25 Minutes To Go was written and first performed by Silverstein for his 1962 Album ‘Inside Folk Songs.’It is about a man awaiting execution by hanging. Each verse consists of two lines of which the first is humorous or poignant and the second line is a minute by minute countdown, you could say it is ‘gallows humour’ in it’s purest sense.
Other notable songs written by Silverstein include ‘A Boy Named Sue’ made famous by Johnny Cash and two hits for Dr. Hook,’The Cover Of The Rolling Stone’ and ‘Sylvia’s Mother.’
The most well known cover of the song is by Johnny Cash(see also best songs 857 and 428) who first recorded it for his 1965 Album ‘Sings The Ballads Of The True West.’the best version of the song(only in my opinion) though appears on the Johnny Cash live Album ‘At Folsom Prison’ from 1968.
‘I can see the buzzards,I can hear the crows,1 more minute to go, and now I’m swingin’ and here I go-o-o-o-o-o!

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
245-AC/DC-Rock ‘N’ Roll Damnation.
1978-Number 24 single.
Best Bit-At 0.14.Malcolm and Angus Young(see also best songs 797) developed the idea for the band’s name after their sister Margaret Young saw the initials ‘AC/DC’ on a sewing machine.’AC/DC’ is an abbreviation for electricity, meaning ‘alternating current/direct current.’
Rock N Roll Damnation is taken from the bands fifth studio Album ‘Powerage’ released in 1978 and considered by many fans to be their best. The song was the final track recorded for the Album after the record company persuaded the band to go back into the studio and come up with a radio friendly single to get airplay. The song features hand claps and maracas and does not have a guitar solo.
They had already had six top 30 hits in Australia, but this song was the first to chart in Europe,(The Netherlands,Number 18 and the UK,Number 24.) It would be another year until they broke in to the American Billboard singles chart.
The songs lyrics tell us that it is a tough road to the top if you want to be a Rock ‘N’ Roll star.
‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Damnation, take a chance while you still got a choice.’

248-Manic Street Preachers-Motorcycle Emptiness.
1992-Number 17 single.
Best Bit-At 5.20.It might not be totally true but the bands founding member James Dean Bradfield relates that while busking one day in Cardiff he got in to an altercation with someone(sometimes said to be a homeless man) who asked him,’What are you, boyo, some kind of manic street preacher.’
‘The Manics'(see also best songs 901) formed in 1986 at Oakdale Comprehensive School,Blackwood,South Wales. The original lineup was James Dean Bradfield,Nicky Wire and Sean Moore, they were soon joined by Richey Edwards who was a band member until his mysterious disappearance in 1995,he has never been found and was declared dead in 2008.

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
249-The Jacksons-Blame It On The Boogie.
1978-Number 8 single.
Best Bit-At 2.43.Michael Jackson wasn’t an astronaut, but at least we know for a fact he did do The Moonwalk.
The songs author was a different Mick Jackson,he was born in Germany but raised in England. He wrote the song with hopes of selling it to Stevie Wonder, but The Jacksons producer Bobby Colomby got to hear it first and got The Jacksons to record it.
In the UK both the Mick Jackson and The Jacksons(see also best songs 812 and 511) version were released within a few days of each other in September 1978.The UK music press had a field day declaring it ‘A Battle of the Boogie.’The Jacksons version was the winner peaking at Number 8 while Mick Jackson’s version reached Number 15.
Mick Jackson wasn’t a one hit wonder because his follow up song ‘Weekend’ charted at Number 39 in 1979.

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
250-Frankie Lymon &The Teenagers-Why Do Fools Falls In Love.
1956-Number 1 single.
Best Bit-At 3.14.The founder of Motown records Berry Gordy based much of the sound of this band on the development of Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5.
Frankie Lymon was only 13 years old when this song made him the youngest person up until that time to have a UK Number 1 single,he was surpassed in 1972 by Little Jimmy Osmond with Long Haired Lover From Liverpool.
Like many youngsters thrust into the limelight at such a young age he had a troubled life,he became addicted to Heroin at the age of 15 and died of an overdose aged 25 in 1968.
In 1981 Diana Ross covered the song for her first release since leaving Tamla Motown Records taking the song to Number 4 in the UK and earning in excess of another 1 Million in royalties worldwide. This led to many years of legal disputes in the courts between the family of Frankie Lymon and the other names credited or making a challenge as authors of this ‘Doo-Wop-Rock ‘N’ Roll’ classic.
‘Why do birds sing so gay and lovers await the break of day.’
