Golden Earring are a Dutch Rock band formed in The Hague, Netherlands in 1961.They were until 1969 called ‘The Golden Earrings,’ taking their name from a song by the little known British group called ‘The Hunters’. Since 1970 the band have consisted of, Rinus Gerritsen, George Kooymans, Barry Hay, and Cesar Zuiderwijk, with other members coming and going. Between 1965-1969, Jaap Eggermont was the bands drummer, in 1981 he would gain international success for the ‘Stars on 45’ records.

The song tells the story of a driver who has a long journey ahead of him, he senses that his girlfriend needs him by her side, so he puts his foot down on the accelerator. In the days before mobile phones, there was no way of being able to communicate instantly, but he thinks he has a psychic relationship with her, which he calls ‘Radar Love’.He switches on the radio, and it is playing Brenda Lee’s 1966 song ‘Coming on Strong,’ Lee has said that she was flattered to be mentioned in such a great song.’
