THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
990-Lee Marvin-Wand’rin’ Star.
1970-Number 1 single.
Best Bit-At 1.14. Each to their own, you couldn’t imagine Lee Marvin singing something like ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry,’ but at the same time, you couldn’t imagine Franki Valli singing this.
‘Wand’rin’ Star’ was one of the songs written by Alan J. Lemer (1918-1986,)(lyrics,) and, Frederick Loewe (1901-1988,) (music,) for the 1951 stage musical ‘Paint Your Wagon.’ In 1969 the musical was made in to a film starring Lee Marvin, Clint Eastwood, and Jean Seberg, although Marvin (1924-1987) was not a natural singer he sang all his own songs in the film, rejecting the idea of miming over another singers voice. The song was orchestrated and arranged by the legendary band leader Nelson Riddle (1921-1985,) who had worked with many world class vocalists of the 1950’s, and 60’s, including Frank Sinatra, and Ella Fitzgerald.
Lee Marvin is one of the few true ‘One Hit Wonders,’ which in it’s true definition means having a Number 1 song, and then never charting in the top 40 again.
‘Snow can burn your eyes, but only people make you cry.’
