Barton Lee Hazlewood was born in 1929, in Mannford, Oklahoma,United States, he died in 2007 from renal cancer. His initial success came in the late 1950’s, co-writing and producing with the guitar legend Duane Eddy, together they recorded some of the best instrumentals of the era, including ‘Peter Gunn,’ and ‘Forty Miles of Bad Road.’ In the 1960’s he teamed up with Nancy Sinatra, together they recorded three Albums. Hazlewood was responsible for writing both of Sinatra’s UK Number 1 singles,’These Boots are Made For Walkin,” and ‘Somethin’ Stupid’ (see also best songs 978-367 and 124.)
‘Summer Wine’ is taken from the 1968 ‘Nancy & Lee’ Album. The song tells the tale of a man who meets a woman, they spend the night together drinking large amounts of wine. When the man awakes next morning hungover, he notices that she has gone, and has taken his expensive silver spurs, but instead of feeling robbed, he finds himself longing that she was still there with him.
‘She took my silver spurs, a dollar and a dime, and left me cravin’ for more summer wine.
