THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
302-David Bowie-Boys Keep Swinging.
1979-Number 7 single.
Best Bit-At 1.37.’I don’t fancy yours much.’
‘Boys Keep Swinging’ is taken from David Bowie’s 13th studio Album, his last release of the 1970’s and the last of the so called ‘Berlin Trilogy,'(‘Low’ from 1977 and ‘Heroes’ also from 1977 being the other two.)
For this song Bowie(see also best songs 807 and 440) was looking for a garage band sound and at the suggestion of Brian Eno got guitarist Carlos Alomar to play the drums and drummer David Davis to play bass,Simon House(see also best songs 577) played the violin.
Bowie has said of the song,’I do not feel that there is anything remotely glorious about being either male or female.I was merely playing on the idea of the colonisation of gender.’
‘Uncage the colours unfurl the flag, luck just kissed you hello when you’re a boy.’
