Best Bit-At 0.54.A dude is a term of address for a man.In the late 19th Century a dude was a person who dressed outlandishly.In the 1970’s Glam Rock gave people the opportunity to cross dress,maybe giving Aerosmith a good idea for a song title.
The song originated after David Bowie came into contact with Mott The Hoople bass player Peter Watts and learned that the band were ready to split due to lack of commercial success.
It is said Bowie wrote the song in less than 30 minutes and had Mott The Hoople(see also best songs 661) not recorded it Bowie would have added his version to the classic ‘The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust’ Album.
Bowie offered Mott The Hoople ‘Drive In Saturday'(see best songs 807) as a follow up single but they chose to record their own material instead.

The band were struggling for a breakthrough hit and their record label gave them one last chance.The music for ‘Epic’ had been written back in 1988 and the bands fortunes changed when Mike Patton joined them,writing the lyrics for the song and it’s parent Album ‘The Real Thing.’

The Jesus and Mary Chain(see also best songs 878) are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in East Kilbride in 1983.The bands two mainstays are the brothers Jim and William Reid.
Early influences for the brothers were among others The Ramones and The Velvet Underground but they were also determined to develop their own sound,this they achieved in 1985 with their critically acclaimed debut Album,Psychocandy.The Album is considered a landmark recording,it’s combination of guitar feedback with traditional pop song structures was to prove influential on the forthcoming alternative rock groups of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.
