The Pet Shop Boys(see also best songs 871) formed in 1981 when Neil Tennant met Chris Lowe in an electronics shop on Kings Road in Chelsea,London,they took the bands name from friends who owned a pet shop.
They have sold 50 million records worldwide and are the most successful duo in UK music history having achieved 42 top 40 singles of which 22 have made the top 10 and 4 have reached Number 1.
Suburbia was inspired by the Penelope Spheeris 1984 film of the same name which depicts the violence and squalor in the suburbs of Los Angeles,the Brixton riots of 1981 and 1985 were also an inspiration.
