THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
443-Ray Noble and his Orchestra with Al Bowlly on vocals-The Very Thought Of You.
1934-Did not chart in the UK as there was no chart until 1952,but did reach Number 1 on Billboard.
Best Bit-At 2.46.I used to get a little embarrassed playing vinyl with the sound of static coming through the speakers, but I must admit in these days of sterile clear audio I do miss it a bit,(but only a bit.)
In the 1920’s and 1930’s the real ‘Pop Stars’ were the ‘Big Band’ leaders and there was no bigger than Ray Noble who composed this song.Over the years it has been covered by many artists as diverse as Frank Sinatra,Ella Fitzgerald,Rod Stewart and Elvis Costello.
Al Bowlly was one of the most sought after vocalists of the period recording approximately 1000 songs in the 1920’s and 1930’s,he is considered to be a pioneer of the art of ‘Crooning.’He died in 1941 when a Luftwaffe Parachute Mine detonated outside his flat in London at ten past three in the morning.
‘The mirror ideal of you,the longing here for you.’
