607-The Stranglers-Duchess.
1979-Number 14 single.
Best Bit-At 1.33.Don’t take offense if your name is Rodney.
The Stranglers formed in 1974 and were one of the instigators of the UK Punk scene, but unlike many of their contemporaries they were still having hits as late as 1990 due to changing their musical stye to go with the times.
‘Duchess’ is a song about a girl claiming to be an heiress who has hit on hard times. She knows all her family history, saying she descends from King Henry V111.When she was well to do men from the lower classes would attempt to raise their profile by trying to court her, these chancer’s are known as ‘Rodney’s,’of whom her parents would strongly disapprove.
‘And the Rodney’s are queuing up God forbid and they all want to win the cup God forbid.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
610-Beastie Boys-(You Gotta)Fight For Your Right(To Party.)
1987-Number 11 single.
Best Bit-At 0.38.Back of the net!
‘Fight For Your Right’ was written by founding member of the Beastie Boys,Adam Yauch,he died of cancer in 2012.
The song began as a joke,it was written as a mickey take on what Adam Yauch called ‘dumb rock songs.’ It is ironic that the song that made the Beastie Boys superstars was thanks to the new ‘fan-base’ they had set out to parody.
‘Your pop caught you smoking and he said no way that hypocrite smokes two packs a day.’

612-Parliament-Give Up The Funk(Tear The Roof Off The Sucker.)
1976-Did not chart in the UK.
Best Bit-At 2.56.If you ever go to a George Clinton concert you’ll hear the phrase ‘Give Up The Funk’ chanted sometimes hundreds of times, starting with the crowd imploring the band to take to the stage.
In the late 1950s George Clinton was a member of the ‘Doo-Wop’ vocal group The Parliaments. In 1967 they finally had a hit with ‘I Wanna Testify,’to capitalize Clinton formed a backing band for a tour.During a contractual dispute Clinton lost the rights to the name ‘The Parliaments,’he reformed his band under the name of ‘Funkadelic’ and as more musicians joined he formed a second group called ‘Parliament.’Clinton wrote and played in both groups during the 1970s.

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
614-Soundgarden-Black Hole Sun.
1994-Number 12 single.
Best Bit-At 2.28.The band is named after a famous sculpture in Seattle.
Soundgarden are an American Rock band who formed in Seattle,Washington in 1984.They were one of the creators of a style of alternative rock that developed in Seattle called ‘Grunge,’along with contemporaries such as Nirvana and Alice In Chains.
Black Hole Sun was written by front man and co-founder of the band Chris Cornell (July 20 1964-May 18 2017.) Cornell stated that the title for the song came from something he heard on the news,he thought he heard the anchor say ‘black hole sun,’but he was really saying something else.Cornell started thinking about the phrase and decided to write a song around it,as he felt it was a thought provoking title.

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
615-Queen-Seven Seas Of Rhye.
1974-Number 10 single.
Best Bit-At 1.36.At the end of the track Queen sample a very well known song written in 1907.
Freddie Mercury(see also best songs 918) let his imagination run wild on this one.He wrote the song basing it on a fantasy world called Rhye that he had created with his sister,Kashmira.
Mercury and his sister were brought up on the African island of Zanzibar and educated in the ‘Zoroastrianism’ religion which was founded in Iran and these fueled Mercury’s flights of fancy.Other Queen songs featuring the mystery world of Rhye include ‘Lily Of The Valley’ and ‘My Fairy King.’
‘Oh i do like to be beside the sea side,oh i do like to be beside the sea’
