Phil Spector’s Christmas Album is rated by music critics as the greatest festive Album of all time.It was first released in 1963 and has 13 songs of which this is track 11.All of the artists on the Album were under the management of Spector at the time including The Ronettes and The Crystals.
This song was written by Jeff Barry,Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector with the intentions of being sung by Ronnie Spector.According to Darlene Love,Ronnie Spector was not able to put as much emotion into the song as needed so she was called upon.
Beginning in 1986 and continuing for 29 years,Darlene Love performed the song annually on the final episode before Christmas of Late Night With David Letterman, the exception was in 2007 when there was a writers strike,a repeat of her 2006 performance was shown instead.
