THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.

260-David Guetta featuring Taped Rai-Just One Last Time (Tiesto Remix.)

2012-Number 20 single.

Best Bit-At 5.07. This is one of just a handful of songs on this countdown which has been chosen for it’s remix, and not for it’s original version.

When I first started buying singles back in 1973 there was only a 7 inch single comprising an ‘A’ and a ‘B’ side (although a few EP’s would be released containing four or more tracks.) Around 1990 when the ‘CD’ format was taking over from vinyl, record labels were able to release more music onto each disc because of the longer playing time the disc provided, although the powers that be would only allow around 20 minutes of music for it to be eligible for the singles chart. Dance music took advantage of this new opportunity and would produce several remixed versions of the same song by different music producers.

David Guetta (see also best songs 909 and 234) was born Pierre David Guetta on November 7th, 1967, in Paris, France, with sales in excess of over 100 million records, including over 10 million Albums, he is one of the worlds best ever selling artists. In June 2021 he sold his recorded music catalogue for an amount somewhere in the region of between US$100 million, to US$150 million. David Guetta has an extensive discography, having released seven studio Albums between 2002-2018, and 99 singles between 1990-2025, there are also three extended plays, (EP’s) and 11 official compilation Albums available. In France on the ‘SNEP,’ which is the organisation that provides the official French music charts, David Guetta has had 48 top 40 hits as the lead artist, and a further one as a featured artist, with five of those tracks making the Number 1 position, with Just One Last Time featuring Taped Rai reaching Number 14. In the UK, David Guetta has had 45 top 40 hits as the lead artist, and a further four as a featured artist, with six of of those tracks making the Number 1 position, while in America on the Billboard Hot 100, as the lead artist, nine of his singles have reached the top 40, with a further one as the featured artist charting, with three of those tracks ‘Without You’ featuring Usher, (2011) ‘Turn Me On’ featuring Nicki Minaj, (2011) and ‘I’m Good (Blue’) with Bebe Rexha, (2022) all peaking at Number 4. In 2012, David Guetta created a new record label known as ‘Jack Back Records,’ which he set up to focus only on Electronic Music releases, compared to the Dance Pop productions he’s most known for, to date there have been 13 singles, and three Albums issued on the label by him between 2012-2024.

‘Just One Last Time’ was the second of three singles released from the deluxe edition of David Guetta’s fifth studio Album ‘Nothing but the Beat, 2.0,’ from September 2012, and was written by David Guetta, Giogio Tuinfort, Tom Liljegren, and Alexander Ryberg, with the production being by Guetta, Tuinfort, and Liljegren. Tom Liljegren and Alexander Ryberg who at that time performed together as ‘Taped Rai,’ also provided the vocals on the track, they are a Swedish vocal duo and currently perform together under their new name of ‘Max Elto.’ ‘Just One Last Time’ was the first single that they performed on together as Taped Rai, they have since released five singles between 2013-2015, as well as issuing music as separate artists, using the names ‘Alex Aris,’ and ‘Tom Taped.’ Giogio Tuinfort is a Dutch music producer and songwriter, and is a long term collaborator with David Guetta.

To my ears ‘Just One Last Time’ in it’s original form was just a run of the mill song until I heard this version remixed by ‘Tiësto,’ there are a further three official remixes issued by various producers, as well as an extended version. ‘Tiësto’ (see also best songs 368 and 29) was born Tijs Michiel Verwest (Dutch pronunciationˈtɛis miˈxil vərˈʋɛst) on January 17th, 1969, in Breda, North Brabant, Netherlands, many consider him the be the best DJ/producer of all time, he is affectionately known as the ‘Godfather of Electronic Dance Music.’ Between 1998-2000 Tiësto collaborated with his fellow Dutch music producer and remixer Ferry Corsten (see also best songs 29) under the name ‘Gouryella,’ achieving two top 40 UK hit singles, ‘Gouryella,’ (1999-Number 15) and ‘Walhalla’ (1999-Number 27.) Tiësto’s 2000 remix of Delerium’s ‘Silence’ featuring Sarah McLachlan (see also best songs 368) finally exposed him to more mainstream audiences. Tiësto was the first DJ to hold the British monthly magazine dedicated to Electronic Dance Music and DJ’s, ‘DJ Magazine’ ‘No. 1. DJ in the World’ title for the three consecutive years: in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Other honours include countless national and international best DJ awards, being named Officer of the ‘Order of Orange-Nassau’ by the Dutch Royalty, and being voted by the Dutch people as their 40th greatest citizen of all time. In 2007, he was awarded with the national Dutch prize of the ‘Golden Harp,’ which is awarded annually to Dutch musicians for their entire body of work.

The discography of ‘Tiësto’ includes seven studio Albums released between 2001-2023, and 119 singles released between 1994-2025, there are also two extended plays, (EP’s) 124 remixes, four remix Albums, and six official compilation Albums available. On the Dutch top 40 (Nederlandse Top 40) ‘Tiësto’ has had 32 top 40 singles, with four of those tracks reaching Number 1. In the UK, he has achieved 18 top 40 hits, with ‘Wasted’ featuring Matthew Koma, (2013) and ‘The Business,’ (2020) both peaking the highest at Number 3. In America, Tiësto’ has never had a Billboard Hot 100 top 40 entry, but 41 of his singles have made the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs top 40 chart.

‘Even though it hurts I can’t slow down. Walls are closing in and I hit the ground. Whispers of tomorrow echo in my mind, just one last time.’
