Little stirrings occurring on week 2 of this year’s new top 40 singles chart, on week 1 there were just the 2 new songs and it’s a repeat this week with 2 more.

The big news is that ‘Uptown Funk’ from Mark Ronson ft Bruno Mars holds on to the top spot, this now gives the song a 4th non consecutive week as the Number 1 equalling the feats of Meghan Trainor (’All About That Bass’) and Clean Bandit (‘Rather Be’ )from last year. Lasts weeks highest new entry from Philip George with ‘Wish You Were Mine’ holds on to the 2nd spot and Ed Sheeran with his former Number 1 ‘Thinking Out Loud’ stays at Number 3 for a 3rd consecutive week. Olly murs with ‘Up’ the 2nd single from his 4th Album ‘Never Been Better’ climbs 2 to 4 and Hozier with ‘Take Me To Church’ climbs 5 places to Number  5 a new peak in its 24th week on the top 40, it’s his debut chart single .

The highest new entry is at Number 7 for Tchami  ft Kaleem Taylor with ‘Promesses’, Tchami is the stage name of French Dj music producer Martin Bresso and this song is his 3rd single release. Up until this hit he has been best known for remixing other artists tracks most notably a 2013 remix of the Janet Jackson song ‘Go Deep’, he has also toured with the likes of Skrillex, Diplo and Dj Snake.

The other new entry is at Number 39 for Echosmith with ‘Cool Kids’, Echosmith are an American Indie/Rock band and this track originally appeared on the bands 2013 debut Album ‘Talking Dreams’. The song has tasted success elsewhere, in America  on Billboard it reached Number 13 and in Germany it peaked at Number 9, the songs biggest success’s to date have been in Australia, Denmark and Belgium where it has reached Number 6.Echosmith are all related as they are 3 brothers and a sister, Graham Sierota is the youngest at 16 years old and is the drummer, Jamie at 22 is the eldest and plays guitar, Noah is 19 and is the bass player and Sydney Grace who  is 18 lead vocalist and keyboard player. She has been compared to Ellie Goulding, Echosmith cite The Smiths as a major influence.

The 1st chart of a New Year and as always it is one of the quieter ones. In total there are just 2 new entries and four re-entries.

The first Number 1 single of 2015 is the one which closed the year of 2014 as ‘Uptown Funk’ from Mark Ronson ft Bruno Mars now achieves a 3rd  non consecutive week at Number 1.

The highest new entry is at Number 2 for Philip George with ‘Wish You Were Mine’, George is 21 years old and comes from Nottingham, he is a dance music producer and this his debut single samples the lyrics of the Stevie wonder classic ‘My Cherie Amour’ (Number 4 in the USA and UK in 1969) having heard the track Stevie wonder has given it is blessing and in George is now signed to Motown Records who have given him permission to sample other songs from the Motown vaults.

Holding steady at Number 3 is the ex Number 1 from Ed Sheeran ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and down 2 to 4 is last year’s X Factor winner Ben Haenow with ‘Something I Need’. Taylor Swift drops 1 place to Number 5 with ‘Blank Space’.

The 4 re-entries are from Sigma with ‘Changes’, Pharrell Williams with ‘Happy’, John Legend with ‘All Of Me’ and Lilly Wood with ‘Prayer In C’  are at Numbers 33, 34, 36 and 39 respectively.

The only other song to enter the top 40 this week is at Number 35 for Kanye West ft Paul McCartney and Ty Dolla Sign with ‘Only One’. Last September West and McCartney got together with other artists and recorded 2 songs together in Mexico, ‘Only One’ is a song about West’s daughter, sang from the perspective of his mother Dr Donda West who died in 2007. This is Kanye West’s 22 UK top 40 single as lead artist he has had a further 12 as featured artist. As well as being co writer of the song Paul McCartney plays piano and sings on the track, it is his  1st charting song since ‘Dance Tonight/ Nod Your Head’  from his 2007 Album ‘Memory Almost Full’ peaked at Number 26.

‘Uptown Funk’ is the 37th different song to top the UK top 40 this year. Mark Ronson is credited as lead artist on the track and Bruno Mars as featured artist, they both helped co write the track, Ronson also produced it and Mars played drums as well as singing lead vocals. Ronson is one of the world’s most respected record producers who always uses guest artists on all of his single releases, since his 1st hit ‘Ooh Wee’ in 2003 (Number 15) he has now gone on to have a further 7 top 40 singles. Previous to ‘Uptown Funk’ his best known collaboration was with Amy Winehouse on the 2007 Number 2 song ‘Valerie’, Bruno Mars whose real name is Peter Gene Hernandez hits Number 1 for the 5th time, 3 times as lead artist and now twice as featured artist.

In total this week there are 4 new entries and 2 re-entries, with the 2nd highest new song entering at Number 5 for Oliver Heldens featuring Kstewart with ‘Last All Night (Koala)’.Heldens is a 19 year old producer from the Netherlands who had the Number 1 single ‘Gecko (Overdrive) earlier on this year, the song has also been a top 30 hit in Belgium and his home country Holland.

The other song to enter this week’s top 20 is at Number 17 for Bring Me the Horizon with ‘Drown’. They are a Rock/Metal band from Sheffield and formed back in 2004, over the course of their 4 Album releases their sound has mellowed to what would now be described as commercial Rock. ‘Drown ‘will not appear on the forth coming new Album ‘Sempiternal’ which could explain the reason why the song  has given them a 1st ever top 40 song.

The 4th  and final new entry this week is at Number 21 for Fifth Harmony with ‘Boss’, the group consists of 5 females who all auditioned and failed to progress in the 2012 American X Factor. Simon Cowell brought them together as a quintet and they continued in that year’s competition in the groups category eventually finishing 3rd overall. They are yet to have a top 40 single on Billboard and this is their debut UK hit.

There are two re-entries this week’ Ed Sheeran re-climbs 5 places to Number 39 with’ Sing’ and Wizzard climb 17 to Number  35 with their Festive classic ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’. This is the 8th time the song has now been a hit, it peaked at Number 4 on its 1st release back in 1973.

This week there are a massive 9 new entries, more than on any other week so far this year and all the new top 3 are brand new songs.

One charity song makes way for another as Gareth Malone’s All Star Choir with ‘Wake Me Up’ makes way for Band Aid 30 with ‘Do They Know Its Christmas’. This is the 4th incarnation of the song, it originally topped the chart and was the Christmas Number 1 in 1984. Five years later in 1989 it was re-recorded and again became the Christmas chart topper. The only two artists to appear on both of these recordings were Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward of Bananarama, in 2004 the song was once again re-recorded this time Bono and Paul McCartney who had sang on the 1984 version were the only two to sing on the 1st and 3rd versions joined by big names of the day. The song was the Christmas Number 1 for a 3rd time in 2004, this time to benefit Sudans troubled Darfur region, it became the biggest selling song of that year. This new version with some different lyrics recorded under the name of Band Aid 30 is to raise money, with all contributions going towards battling the Ebola virus epidemic in West Africa. Bono performs for a 3rd time on a band aid single and it was recorded at the Sarm West Studios in Notting Hill London the same venue as the original 30 years ago.

Clean bandit featuring Jess Glynne are a new entry at Number 2, two members of the group  Grace Chatto (chello) and Milan Neil Amin Smith(drums) play on the Band Aid 30 single. This is the 7th track to be released from the deluxe edition of their debut Album ‘New Eyes’ and the 4th to go top 20. This combination of Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne have been to Number 1 back in February with one of the year’s biggest hits ‘Rather Be’. Also this year ‘Extraordinary’ peaked at Number 5, their other hit was ‘Mozarts House (Number 17) last year.25 year old Jess Glynne is from  Muswell  Hill in London, she too has  had a very successful year with 2 Number 1’s as featured artist, the aforementioned ‘Rather Be’ and also as vocalist on Route 94’s ‘My Love’. She has also charted as a solo artist when reaching number 6 earlier on this year with ‘Right Here’.

New in at Number 3 is Olly Murs ft  Travie Mccoy with ‘Wrapped Up’, it is the lead single from his upcoming 4th Album ‘Never Been Better’. Olly Murs also sings on the Band Aid single. As main artist he has now had 12 hit singles, this is his 5th top 3 song the other 4 all made Number 1.Travie Mccoy is from New York, as well as being a solo artist in his own right he is also the lead singer of the Gym Class Heroes. This is his 4th hit as featured artist, as main artist he is best known for the 2010 UK Number 3 single ‘Billionaire’ which featured Bruno Mars.

The 4th new entry is at Number 5 for David Guetta , the song is the 4th track from his 6th studio Album’ Listen’ .Of the 3 previous tracks ‘Lovers On The Sun’ was the most successful reaching Number 1 earlier on this year, Guetta has now charted an impressive 27 times with a host of different vocalists.

The 5th new entry into the top 10 is at Number 8 for Wretch 32 with ‘6 Words’. He was born Jermaine Scott Sinclair in Tottenham London in 1985, his mother was from Jamaica where Wretch means slim or skinny. She called him Wretch as a child, he states that the Number 32 is his lucky Number (pronounced three two) and thought it would be fun to have it as a surname. This is his 6th top 40 hit, ‘Don’t Go’ ft Josh Kumra was Number 1 back in 2011.

Manchester based boy band Rixton follow up their debut hit ‘Me And My Broken Heart’ which was  a  Number 1 single with ‘Wait On Me’ which enters at Number 12. Rixton are Jake Roche, Charley Bagnall, Danny Wilkin and Lewi Morgan.

One Direction release the 2nd track from their current Number 1 Album ‘Four’, it is called ‘Night Games’.’Steal My Girl’ is still riding high at Number 6 having peaked as high as 3 earlier on this month, this is their 13th top 40 single and they also appear on the current Number 1 from Band Aid 30.

Another boy band also have a new entry this week as Australia’s 5 Seconds Of Summer chart for the 4th time this year, this time with ‘Good Girls’ at Number 19. All 4 hits appear on their self titled debut Album ,they are ‘She Looks So Perfect’ (Number 1) ‘Don’t Stop’ (Number 2) and ‘Amnesia’(Number 7).

The 9th and final new entry this week is at Number 26 for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds with ‘In the Heat of the Moment’, it is the 1st track to be released from their 2nd Album to be called ‘Chasing Yesterday’. Their self titled debut Album back in 2011 produced 2 hit singles, ‘The Death of You and Me’ (Number 15) and ‘Aka What A Life’ (Number 20).

This week on the new top 40 there are just 3 new entries but one of these peaks in the top spot.

The song which becomes the 29th different chart topper this year is called ‘Changing’ and is from Sigma  ft Paloma Faith. Sigma are drum and bass music producers Cameron Edwards and Joe Lenzie who met at Leeds University back in 2006, ‘Changing’ gives them their 2nd Number 1 single this year as ‘Nobody To Love’ topped the chart back in April. Paloma Faith Blomfield is 33 years old and comes from London. To date she has released 3 solo Albums and 13 singles her most successful to date being her latest one which peaked at Number 6 recently called ‘Only Love Can Break Your Heart’ technically this is her 2nd appearance on a Number 1 single as a featured artist as she was part of the Justice Collective who released the charity single ‘He Aint Heavy He’s My Brother’ back in 2012.

Last week’s Number 1 from Calvin Harris, ‘Blame’ slips back one place to Number 2 and last week’s Number 2 is now the new Number 3 for Lilly Wood with ‘Prayer in C’.

The 2nd highest new entry is at Number 4 for Professor Green ft Tori Kelly with ‘Lullaby’. Professor Green is the stage name of British born rapper Stephen Paul Manderson. His soon to be released 3rd Album is to be called ‘Growing Up In Public’ and this is the 1st single taken from it. This new song gives him his 9th top 40 hit his most successful hit to date was a Number 1 back in 2011 with ‘Read All About It’ which featured Emile Sande. Tori Kelly is 21 years old and comes from California, she has released 4 solo singles to date and has appeared as featured artist on a further 4, this is her 1st appearance on the UK top 40.

The other new entry this week is at Number 35 for Hozier with ‘Take Me to Church’. Andrew Hozier-Byrne is 24 years old and comes from Bray, County Wicklow in Ireland he has just released his debut Album called ‘Hozier’ and has already tasted great success in his home country. ‘Take Me to Church’ reached Number 2 last year and 2 other tracks from his debut Album ‘Sedated’ and ‘Eden’ have both been top 5

After spending 2 weeks at Number 1 Lilly Wood drops 1 place to Number 2 with ‘Prayer In C’ making way for the new Number 1 from Calvin Harris with vocals from John Newman,  the song is called  ‘Blame’, it becomes the 28th different chart topper this year .This is the 2nd Number 1 this year for Harris following on the success of ‘Summer’, in total he has now appeared on 7 chart toppers and a total of 20 top 40 singles. John Newman is 24 years old and comes from Settle North Yorkshire, his debut Album last year gave him 2 hit singles that included the Number 1 ‘Love Me Again’, he was also featured artist on the Rudimental chart topper ‘Feel the Love’.

The 2nd new entry is at Number 6 for Ten Walls with ‘Walking With Elephants’,  over  the last couple of years or so they have been building up a following and this is their break through track, it would come under the Deep House banner.

The 3rd new entry is at Number 10 for the latest offering from Chris Brown with ‘New Flame’, the song features contributions from Usher and Rick Ross and is taken from his forth coming 6th Album ‘X’. This is Chris Browns 25th chart entry, Ushers 26th and the 1st time Rick Ross has appeared on the UK top 40.

The 4th and final new entry is at Number 22 for Fall Out Boy with ‘Centuries’, Fall Out Boy are an American rock group from Chicago who formed in 2001, they have to date released 5 studio Albums and 2 live Albums. This is their 9th top 40 single, their biggest success to date occurred back in 2007 when ‘This Aint A Scene, It’s An Arms Race’ peaked at Number 2.

There is also 1 re-entry this week at Number 26 for A Great Big World featuring Christina Aguilera with ‘Say Something’, the song has been as high as Number 4 and it is the 24th hit for Aguilera and the 1st for A Great Big World.

It’s all change at the top this week as we have a new Number 1 and a new Number 2 which are both new entries. The song which becomes the 27th different chart topper this year is from Lilly Wood with the Robin Schulz mix of ‘Prayer In C’. Lilly Wood is the performing name of Pop/Folk duo Nili Hadeda who was born in Tel Aviv Israel and Bemjamin Coto, they have been performing together since 2006 ‘Prayer In C’ originally appeared on their 2010 Album ‘Invincible Friends’. Robin Schulz is a 27 year old German music producer and he has remixed the song leading to its current success, this is not the first Number 1 for Schulz this year as he also remixed the Mr Probz song ‘Waves’.

Missing out on the top spot is the 2nd new entry from Maroon 5 with ‘Maps’, the song is taken from their 5th studio Album called ‘V’. Maroon 5 had their first UK hit back in 2002 when ‘Harder To Breathe’ reached Number 13, since then they have achieved a further 14 top 40 singles including their only Number 1 to date ‘Payphone’ in 2011.

Last week’s Number 1 from David Guetta with ‘Lovers On the Sun’ drops 2 places to Number 3 and Taylor Swift holds onto the Number 4 spot for the second week.

The 3rd highest new entry is from Lethal Bizzle in at Number 11 with ‘Rari Workout’ ,his real name is Maxwell Ansah and he comes from London. This is his 10th top 40 single and 2nd hit this year following on from ‘The Drop’ which peaked at Number 20.

The 4th new entry this week is at Number 20 for Ariana Grande featuring Zedd with ‘Break Free’, the song is the 2nd single from her Album ‘My Everything’ the 1st release was ‘Problem’ which was Number 1 earlier on this year zedd is a German music producer whose best known songs include ‘Stay the Night’ and ‘Clarity’.

The 5th and final new song to chart this week is at Number 38 for Katy Perry with ‘This Is How We Do’, it is the 5th single release from last year’s ‘Prism’ Album which has so far produced 2 top 5 singles with ‘Roar’ and ‘Dark Horse’.

This week there are 5 new entries and 1 re-entry into the top 40.

There is a brand new Number 1 and it is from David Guetta with ‘Lovers on the Sun’. This is his 5th uk Number 1 song  following on from ‘When Love Takes Over’ , ‘Sexy chick’,’Getting Over’ and ‘Titanium’, the song has a featured vocalist in Sam Martin who charts for the 1st time and he along with Avicci are co-writers.

Last week’s chart topper from Nico and Vinz drops 1 place to Number 2 and last week’s Number 2 from Magic drops 1 place to Number 3.

The 2nd highest new entry is at Number 4 for Taylor Swift with ‘Shake it Off’, this is the 11th top 40 single for her and is taken from her forth coming 5th Album  called ‘1989’.

There are 3 entries in total in the new top 5 and at Number 5 is the track ‘My Head is a Jungle’ from Wankelmut ft Emma Louise, Wankelmut is the stage name of Jacob Dillbnerr who is 27 years old and was born in Berlin. In German Wanklemut is a term for being fickle, ‘My head is a jungle’ is his 2nd top 40 hit following on from the 2012 Number 30 single ‘One Day/Reckoning’,  the track was co-written by Emma Louise Lobb who is an Australian singer song writer.

The other new entry into the top 10 is ‘Tonight [We Live Together]’ from boy band Union J, the song is the 1st track to be taken from their upcoming  2nd and as yet not named new  Album, Union J finished 4th on the 2012 series of the X Factor and this is their 3rd top 10 single.

The 5th and final new entry this week is at Number 34 for Saint Motel with ‘My Type’, they are an American Indie Rock band and come from Los Angeles, they recorded their debut Album back in 2012 called ‘Voyeur’ and even so it didn’t produce  any hits it was critically well received .

Finally this week the Vance Joy track ‘Riptide’ re-enters the top 40 for the 2nd time at Number 38.

These days it is very unusual for a song to stay at Number 1 for more than 1 week, so it is a very well done to Nico and Vinz who were a new entry last week  and hold on to the top spot with ‘Am I Wrong’.

Also holding their place at Number 2 is the former Number 1 from Canadian band Magic with the reggae tinged ‘Rude’, in fact the top 3 all stay the same as ‘Love Runs Out’ by One Republic hold onto the Number 3 spot.

This week we welcome 5 new entries with the highest of them in at Number  4 for Kiesza with ‘Giant in My Heart, this is the follow up to her recent Number 1 single ‘Hideaway’ and is taken from the Album of the same name.

The other new song to break into the top 20 is the latest effort from Rizzle Kicks the song is called ‘Tell Her’,  Rizzle Kicks are 22 year old Jordan  Stephens and Harley Alexander-Hule who is also 22 and they both come from Brighton. They already have 2 top 5 Albums behind them and this is their 6th top 20 single.

New in at Number 32 is Iggy Azalea ft Rita Ora with ‘Black Widow’. This is the 5th single release from Azaleas debut Album ‘The New Classic’, the song was originally recorded by Katy Perry but left off her ‘Prism’ Album and given to Iggy Azalea instead.

The 4th new entry is at number 38 for The Saturdays with ‘What Are You Waiting For’, The Saturdays have now had 18 hits from 18 releases but this is their lowest 1st week entry to date, this track is featured on the just released greatest hits Album called ‘Finest Selection’.

The final new entry is at Number 40 for Sam Smith with ‘I’m Not the Only One,The song will not be available for digital download until 31st August and has charted on streaming only, it is his 3rd chart single this year following on his 2 Number 1’s.

On the new top 40 this week there are a total of 6 new entries, one of them debuting at the top.

The 23rd different Number 1 of this year so far is from Cheryl Cole ft Tinie Tempah with ‘Crazy Stupid Love’. Cole has now had 4 UK solo chart toppers and this ties her as the most successful British female artist alongside Geri Halliwell and Rita Ora. The song gives Tinie Tempah his 3rd Number 1 as a featured artist and 2nd this year following on from ‘Tsunami’ with Dvbbs.

New to the top 40 at Number 2 is Magic with ‘Rude’. Magic are a Canadian reggae band who are influenced by 80s super group The Police. ‘Rude’ is the debut release from them and it is currently Number 1 in America, their lead singer Nasri Atweh has had previous success writing for others including the Chris Brown song ‘Don’t Judge Me’.

The 3rd new entry into the top 10 is from Charli XCX with ‘Boom Clap’ at Number 6. As the lead artist on a single this is her 1st hit but she has had 2 notable previous successes as featured artist, on last year’s UK  Number 1 with Icona Pop on ‘I Love It’ and this year’s Billboard chart topper with Iggy Azalea on ‘Fancy’.

New in at Number 12 is the Route 94 remix of the 1994 song ‘Always’ by MK ft Alana, in the UK the song originally peaked at Number 69. MK is the stage name of Marc Kinchen and in the last 20 years he has remixed songs by Celine Dione, Pitbull and Storm Queen amongst many others, Route 94 topped the chart earlier on this year with ‘My Love’.

Neon Jungle score a hit for the 4th time with the ballad ‘Louder’ new in at Number 14. All 4 hits are taken from their debut Album ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, they had their 1st hit last year with the Number 12 single ‘Trouble’. This year ‘Bravehear’t peaked at Number 4 and the single ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ at Number 7.

The 6th and final new entry is at Number 18 for X Ambassadors and Jamie N Commons ft Jay Z with ‘Jungle’. The X Ambassadors are an American alternative rock band from New York while Jamie N Commons was born in Bristol but emigrated to Chicago with his parents when he was 6 years old, this is the 13th time Jay Z has now appeared on a top 40 UK single as a featured artist
