Robert Charles Goldsboro was born 18 January, 1941, in Marianna, Florida, U.S., his recording of the Bob Russell song ‘Honey,’ was the best selling single worldwide in 1968. He has had a total of 11 top 40 hits on Billboard, his 1966 single ‘It’s Too Late’, and it’s ‘B’ side, ‘Too Many People’ are both cult ‘Northern Soul’ classics, in the UK.Between 1973-1975, Goldsboro hosted the successful syndicated television programme, ‘The Bobby Goldsboro Show,’ and in 1995 he created the 52 episode children’s television series,’The Swamp Critters of Lost Lagoon,’ where he voiced all the characters, wrote all the scripts, and played all the musical instruments.

‘Summer (The First Time’) was written by Goldsboro, and produced by Bob Montgomery (1937-2014,) who in the early 1950’s was the song writing partner, and best friend of Buddy Holly, while at high school together they formed the performing duo ‘Buddy and Bob.’ Montgomery was the co-writer of the Buddy Holly hit ‘Heartbeat,’ and another of his notable songs is the Country Music classic ‘Misty Blue’.’Summer (The First Time,) is about a man reminiscing about his first romantic experience as a 17 year old boy, with a 31 year old woman. It is believed that Goldsboro took his inspiration for the song from the 1971 film, ‘Summer of ’42,’ Canadian singer Bryan Adams has stated that he also was inspired by that film to write ‘Summer of ’69’ (see also best songs 1003.)
