THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
950-Wildchild-Renegade Mater.
1995-Number 11 single.
Best Bit-At 0.32.The Fatboy Slim Remix is equally as good, but I have chosen the Wildchild version, because he had the original idea.
‘Wildchild’ was the stage name of Roger McKenzie (22 July, 1971- 25 November, 1995,) he was born in Southampton, England, and died from an undiagnosed heart condition at the age of 24. His first chart success was with ‘Legends of the Dark Black Side Part 2,’ which in fact is this song, but under a different title, which reached Number 34 in April, 1995. When re-released shortly before his death in October 1995, under the title of ‘Renegade Master,’ it peaked at Number 11. McKenzie has also had two posthumous hits, with ‘Jump to My Beat,’ (Number 30, 1996,) and ‘Bad Boy,’ (Number 38, 1998.)
In January 1998 Fatboy Slim (see also best songs 760-387 and 95,) did a remix of ‘Renegade Master,’ it surpassed the success of the Wildchild version by reaching Number 3 in the UK top 40 singles chart.
‘Renegade Master’ samples some of the lyrics from the Hip-Hop song ‘One For The Trouble’ by ‘A.D.O.R’.,and due to the songs popularity some of the lyrics have made their way into the ‘Urban Dictionary.’ A ‘renegade’ is someone who rebels, and becomes an outlaw defector, or is a disloyal person who abandons their duty.’Ill Behaviour,’ is urban slang for acting in an unusual manner, maybe brought on by the use of alcohol, or drugs, and a ‘Default Damager’ is someone who has a lot to say, but offers little content in what they say.
‘Back once again for the renegade master, D4 damager. power to the people. Back once again for the renegade master, D4 damager, with the ill behaviour.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
951-The Cure-In Between Days.
1985-Number 15 single.
Best Bit-At 0.01.It’s only the song with the best ‘Intro’ in the world ever, all 1 minute and 51 seconds of it.
The original five founding members of The Cure were school friends at Notre Dame Middle School in Crawley, West Sussex, England, their first performance was at the school in April 1973, calling themselves ‘Obelisk.’ It wasn’t until the Spring of 1978 that the band now officially named The Cure by Robert Smith, entered a recording studio for the first time as a trio. They have undergone many personnel changes throughout the years, with Robert Smith being the bands one constant.
‘In Between Days’ is an upbeat, happy sounding ‘Pop’ song, something not always associated with The Cure, (although there have been a few,) it has been noted that the tracks baseline is reminiscent of the song ‘Dreams Never End’ by New Order. Unlike the beat, the lyrics are not happy, the song was written by Robert Smith, and tell of an affair the narrator had, then realising he had made a mistake, is wanting his first love back.
‘And I know I was wrong, when I said it was true, That it couldn’t be me, and be her, in-between, without you.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
952-Dennis Brown-Money In My Pocket.
1979-Number 14 single.
Best Bit- At 3.59. I am the very proud owner of this song on beautiful mint condition 12 inch vinyl. It probably isn’t worth anything, and besides I don’t even own a record player to play it on, but it’s lovely to look at.
Dennis Brown was born on February 1st, 1957, in Kingston, Jamaica, he died on the 1st July, 1999, also in Kingston, Jamaica. He was a prolific recording artist, releasing his first single at the age of 11, and recording more than 75 Albums in his lifetime. He was one of the leading protagonists in the genre of ‘Lovers Rock,’ a style of Reggae music noted for it’s romantic sound, and content. He is remembered as one of the most influential figures in Reggae music, Bob Marley cited Brown as his favourite singer, calling him ‘The Crown Prince of Reggae.’
‘Money in my Pocket’ was originally recorded in 1972, and was co-written by Brown, and the legendary Reggae producer Joe Gibbs (1942-2008.) In 1978 the specialist Reggae label ‘Lightning Records’ released a new version of the song, with the original ‘Dub’ version being replaced by the ‘Toasting’ of Prince Mohammed.

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
953-Avril Lavigne-Girlfriend.
2007-Number 2 single.
Best Bit-At 1.11.It’s the poor Boyfriend I feel sorry for, it must be awful having all those girls fighting over you.
‘Girlfriend’ was the biggest selling single worldwide in 2007, with estimated sales in excess of 7,300,000 copies. The song was co-written by Avril Lavigne, and Dr. Luke, who were both sued by James Gangwer, and Tommy Dunbar, of the band ‘The Rubinoos,’ over claims that ‘Girlfriend’ was very similar to their 1979 song ‘I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend.’ Both Lavigne, and Dr Luke both strenuously denied these accusations, stating that they had never ever even heard of that song. Eventually things were settled out of court, with Lavigne stating it was cheaper to do it that way, rather than having to spend more on court costs. It has also been pointed out that The Rubinoos song has similarities to the Rolling Stones ‘Get Off Of My Cloud,’ and ‘Girlfriend’ closely resembles the song ‘Micky’ by Toni Basil.
Avril Ramona Lavigne was born on September 27, 1984, in Belleville, Ontario, Canada, she is recognised for bringing together elements of ‘Power Pop’ and ‘Rock,’ earning her the title of ‘Pop Punk Queen.’ Her debut Album, ‘Let Go’ released in 2002 went to Number 1 in the UK, making her the youngest solo female artist at that time, at the age of 17 to top that chart.
‘She’s like,’So whatever’,you could do so much better, I think we should get together now.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
954-Elvis Presley-Jailhouse Rock.
1958-Number 1 single. When re released in 2005, it once again went to Number 1.
Best Bit-At 0.01.When an old person tells you that today’s songs would make a vicar blush, ask them how this song of debauchery, and Sodom and Gomorrah, managed to get past the censors in 1957.
‘Jailhouse Rock’ was written for the film of the same name by the legendary songwriting team of Jerry Leiber (1933-2011,) and Mike Stoller. The film was the third of 31 films Elvis Presley (see also best songs 664-442 and 194) appeared in, and one of his more critically approved of. The dance scene in the film to this song, which Presley performed in, and also choreographed, is agreed upon as his greatest on screen moment.
Leiber and Stoller (see also best songs 804-124 and 86) obviously had a lot of fun writing the lyrics, which are very much tongue in cheek. Some of the characters are fictional, but some were real, ‘Shifty Henry’ was an American Blues songwriter, while ‘The Purple Gang’ who were ‘The whole rhythm section,’ were in fact a criminal mob of murderers, and armed robbers, who operated in Detroit, Michigan in the 1920’s. ‘Sad Sack’ is another character mentioned, Sad Sack was originally a comic book character created during World War 2, for the comic book ‘Yank, the Army Weekly.’ Sad Sack depicted a lowly private, experiencing some of the humiliations of military life, the title was a euphemistic shortening of the military slang,’Sad Sack of S..t.’
‘Number 47 said to Number 3, you’re the cutest jailbird I ever did see.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
955-The Notorious B.I.G. featuring Puff Daddy and Mase-Mo Money Mo Problems.
1997-Number 6 single.
Best Bit-At 3.36.It appears that the more money you have, the more problems you have. ‘I’ll risk it.’
‘Mo Money Mo Problems’ was the second single released from The Notorious B.I.G’s.second Album ‘Life After Death,’ it got to Number 1 on Billboard, as did the first release ‘Hypnotize,’ making The Notorious B.I.G.the only artist to have two Number 1 singles posthumously.
The Notorious B.I.G.(see also best songs 307) was born Christopher Wallace on May 21, 1972, in New York City, he was assassinated, by a still unknown gunman, in Los Angeles, on March 9, 1997.
‘Mo Money Mo Problems’ heavily samples the 1980 song ‘I’m Coming Out’ sung by Diana Ross, and written by Nile Rogers, and Bernie Edwards, they are both given songwriting credits. The vocals of Diana Ross are also sampled, that was down to long term ‘Bad Boys Records’ collaborator Steven Jordan, who is also given a writers credit. The other sung vocals are provided by the unaccredited R&B singer Kelly Price, who went on to release seven solo Albums.
There are three verses, with Mace, who was on the ‘Bad Boy Records’ roster at the time performing the first, Puff Daddy, the creator of the label who had been a long time friend of ‘Biggie,’ did the second Rap, and The Notorious B.I.G. rounded things off.
The lyrics explain how money, and success can lead to problems, with people getting jealous of your success, and bad mouthing you. As the Bad Boy record label took off, they were subject to aggression, and a whole host of lawsuits.
‘B.I.G.,P-O,P-P-A no info, for the,DEA. Federal agents mad ’cause I’m flagrant.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
956-Boston-More Than a Feeling.
1976-Number 22 single.
Best Bit-At 3.48.It is just possible that an impressionable nine year old by the name of Kurt Cobain could have been listening to this song, and thinking, that’s a great guitar riff.
Boston are an American Rock band formed in Boston, Massachusetts,United States, in 1975 by Tom Scholz, (guitars and various other instruments,) the other artists who played on the song were, Brad Delp, (1951-2007,vocals,) Sid Hashian, (1949-2017,drums,) and Barry Goudreau (guitar.) The one constant to this present day is the bands founding member, and main composer, Tom Scholz. To say that Scholz is a musical perfectionist is an understatement, as he doesn’t believe in releasing new material until he is at least 100% satisfied, hence the release of just six studio Albums in 44 years.
‘More Than a Feeling’ is taken from Boston’s self titled debut Album which has sold in excess of 17 million copies, making it the second best selling debut Album in history, behind Guns N’ Roses, ‘Appetite for Destruction.’
Music critics have cited the similarity between this songs guitar riff, and Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ (see also best songs 9,) but it has also been noted that there is a similarity between ‘More Than a Feeling,’ and The Kingsmen’s 1963 recording of ‘Louie Louie.’
Scholz has said that one of his biggest inspirations for the song are the lyrics of ‘Walk Away Renee,’ by The Left Banke. The song is about someone missing a former lover, and on hearing an old familiar song, memories come rushing back.
‘When I’m tired and thinking cold, I hide in my music, forget the day.’

Nicki Minaj has explained the songs meaning,’Starships are meant to fly, is a line about reaching one’s full potential in life. That’s what I feel, just go for it. Stop limiting yourself, and that’s a great feeling. It’s a great feeling to not box yourself into anyone’s limitations, or ideas, or judgements. That’s what it means to me.’

The Ruts are a Punk Rock group formed in London, England, in 1977, by Malcolm Owen (1953-1980,) Paul Fox (1951-2007,) John ‘Segs’ Jennings, and Dave Ruffy, Jennings, and Ruffy still play together as ‘Ruts DC.’ They are remembered for being vigorous opponents of racism, and played several benefit gigs for ‘Rock Against Racism.’ They were one of the leading bands in the Punk Rock scene of the late 1970’s, championed by influential DJ John Peel, who took to them after hearing their debut single,’In a Rut’. 959-Bon Jovi-Dry County.
1994-Number 9 single.
Best Bit-At 5.57.Jon Bon Jovi is the ‘Rock Star’ for people who don’t really like ‘Rock’ music. Would it be unkind to describe him as Barry Manilow with an Electric Guitar, and a big set of Drums?
Bon Jovi (see also best songs 325,) were formed in Sayreville, New Jersey,US.in 1983 by Jon Bon Jovi (vocals,) David Bryan (keyboards,) Tico Terres (drums,) and Alec John Such (bass,) Richie Sambora (lead guitar,) joined soon after. he left the group in 2013.
