THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
980-Cleveland Eaton-Bama Boogie Woogie.
1978-Number 35 single.
Best Bit-At 2.39.It’s amazing how the years don’t change the way you feel about certain songs. Even after all this time, I still get the same vibe off this song, as I did as a teenager.
Back in the mid to late 1970’s not quite everybody, but certainly many artists of the day, had a go at the Disco market.
Cleveland Eaton was born on August 31, 1939, in Fairfield, Alabama, U.S., he has performed on over 100 Albums for artists as diverse as Frank Sinatra, Herbie Hancock, and The Temptations. Two of his long standing associations were with the Count Basie Orchestra, where he was nicknamed,’The Count’s Bassist,’ and also as a musician playing bass alongside Ramsey Lewis (see also best songs 525.)
‘Bama Boogie Woogie’ was taken from Eaton’s 1976 Album ‘Instant Hip,’ it was predominantly a Funk, and Soul collection, from a man who can turn his hand to any musical genre, from Jazz, to Swing, to R&B, and of course Disco dancing.
‘Bama boogie, got my boogie woogie bama boogie, got my boogie woogie.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
981-Housemaster Boyz and the Rude Boy of House-House Nation.
1987-Number 8 single.
Best Bit-At 6.17. I can never remember what this song is called.
The brains behind the song is Farley Williams, born 25th January, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois, United States. He is one of the music producers responsible for developing the musical genre of ‘Chicago House Music.’ In 1985 Williams, together with Irwin Eberhart, better known by his stage name ‘Chip E.,’ set up their own record label called ‘House Records,’ and that was where Williams would release highly influential tracks under various aliases, such as ‘Farley Funkin’ Keith,’ and ‘Farley ‘Jackmaster’ Funk,’ (see also best songs 424.)
As the title suggests ‘Chicago House’ evolved in Chicago, in the early 1980’s. By the end of the 1970’s ‘Disco Music’ had reached the end of it’s lifespan, and the next generation needed their own new music. House Music built on Disco in a more technical manner, where as Disco music was often played by Orchestras, House Music was performed with synthesizers, and studio technology.

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
982-Usher featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris-Yeah!
2004-Number 1 single.
Best Bit-At.0.02.Here’s the dilemma,Usher is so irresistible to women, that they are throwing themselves at him. The poor chap has to decide whether to cheat on his girlfriend, or walk away.
There are countless genres of types of music in ‘Pop,’ the official genre name for this song is ‘Crunk&B,’ ‘Crunk’ is a sub genre of Hip-Hop music. ‘Crunk’ is used to describe Hip-Hop music that comes out of the South coast of America, especially in Atlanta, New Orleans, and Miami, it’s main components are keyboard synths, drum machine, heavy basslines, and shouted vocals’ in a call and response manner.
The genre emerged in the early 1990’s, and gained mainstream success in the early 2000’s’ thanks in the main to one of this songs writers Lil Jon (see also best songs 943.)

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
983-Jimi Hendrix Expierience-Crosstown Traffic.
1968- Number 37 single.
Best Bit-At 2.18.The guitar part just before the chorus impressed a young David Bowie so much, that he pinched it for ‘Starman.’
Jimi Hendrix (see also best songs 492) was born Johnny Allen Hendrix on November 27, 1942, in Seattle, Washington, U.S.,he died at the age of 27 on September 18, 1970 in Kensington, London, England. Hendrix is held in the highest regard by both music journalists, and fellow artists alike, with many publications citing him as the greatest guitarist of all time. But it was probably his experimentation with ‘amplifier feedback,’ making the guitar sound like it had never sounded before, that sets him apart. His influence has led the way in the development of ‘Hard Rock,’ Heavy Metal,’ and ‘Grunge’ music.
‘Crosstown Traffic’ was taken from Hendrix’s third and final Album released during his lifetime,’Electric Ladyland,’ with it’s Hard Rock riff, it is an example of mixing ‘Blues’ music with ‘Psychedelic Rock.’ The songs lyrics are similar to many Blues songs in that they are filled with sexual innuendo, ‘Crosstown Traffic is about a girl who is hard to get rid of, getting through to her that she is not wanted, is like getting through crosstown traffic.
‘Tyre tracks all across your back, I can, I can see, you had your fun.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
984-The Mission-Amelia.
1990-Has never been released as a single in the UK.
Best Bit-At 0.35.The songs subject is probably about the worst thing one human being can do to another.
The Mission who are known as the Mission UK in the United States, formed in Leeds, England, in 1985.Lead singer Wayne Hussey had previously been a guitarist with ‘Sisters of Mercy,’ Craig Adams, the bass player, had also been in that band, Simon Hinkler had been in the Punk band ‘Artery,’ he would later join Jarvis Cocker in Pulp. The lineup was completed by drummer Mick Brown, who had previously been a member of the Leeds based ‘Gothic Rock’ band, ‘Red Lorry Yellow Lorry.’
The lyrics were written by the bands founding member, only constant, and lead singer Wayne Hussey (see also best songs 1051.) The song is about sexual child abuse, with Hussey making his point without having to go into graphic detail, in order to make that point. His vocal delivery is full of panic, and horror, and there can’t be many other songs that are so shocking to the listener.
It is rumoured that Hussey wrote the song after receiving a letter from a fan, who disclosed details of abuse she had suffered at the hands of her father. Some years later the same woman got back in touch to let him know how much she appreciated the song, and that she was doing well.
‘Daddy comes in the dark of the night, Daddy say, ‘Don’t be scared, it’ll be alright.”

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
985-Average White Band-Pick Up the Pieces.
1974-Number 6 single.
Best Bit-At 2.13. When is an instrumental not an instrumental? Because this song has a few chants of ‘Pick Up the Pieces,’ does that mean it’s not actually an instrumental?
If you didn’t know you would think that the Average White Band, also known as ‘AWB’ are a American Funk Band, nothing could be further from the truth, because they are white, and from Scotland. ‘AWB’ were formed in 1972 by Alan Gorrie, and Malcolm ‘Molly’ Duncan, they were soon joined by a further five members. They have had four UK top 40 singles all charting between 1974-1980, in total they have released 13 studio Albums, the latest being ‘Inside Out’ in 2018.
‘Pick Up the Pieces’ was co-written by band members Hamish Stuart, and Roger Ball, though all of the groups members are given songwriting credit, it was produced by the legendary music producer Arif Mardin (1932-2006.) During the song there are chants of ‘Pick Up the Pieces,’ Malcolm Duncan explained,’ It’s about picking yourself up when things aren’t going well’. The song had it’s greatest success in America, where it became a Billboard Number 1 single in 1975.

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
986-The Human League-Sound of the Crowd.
1981-Number 12 single.
Best Bit-At 2.52.There are certain songs which don’t have an official dance, or actions relating to that song, but because you’ve seen the video, you find yourself subconsciously copying the girls in The Human League.
The Human League were formed in Sheffield, England in 1977 by Phil Oakey, Martin Ware, and Ian Craig Marsh, as an experimental electronic outfit. Ware, and Marsh both left to form Heaven 17 in 1980, leaving Oakey to pursue a more commercial sound. In 1981 Ian Burden joined the band full time, alongside the female vocalists Joanne Catherall, and Susan Sully, who had joined in 1980, and Philip Wright, who had been part of the group since 1978 (see also best songs 1009.)
‘The Sound of the Crowd’ was co-written by Oakey, and Burden. Some of the lyrics appear to make no sense, such as,’Stroke a pocket with a print of a laughing sound.’ Burden has explained,’I scribbled down some stream-of-consciousness words, so that I could demonstrate the vocal parts to him (Oakey,) without having to do the naff la-la-la-hum-hum-hum type of explanation. He went off and wrote a new chorus vocal, but surprisingly kept my verse lyrics.’
‘Make a shroud, pulling combs through a backwash frame.’

987-Fedde Le Grand-Put Your Hands Up for Detroit.
2006 Number 1 single.
Best Bit-At 2.02.Detroit will always be synonymous with the music of Tamla Motown, but this song pays homage to the genre of ‘Detroit Techno,’ music which developed in Detroit, in the early 1980’s.
‘Put Your Hands Up for Detroit’ samples the lyrics of the 1999 Electronic Dance Music song ‘Hands Up for Detroit’ by Matthew Dear, and David Shayman (1980-2007.) In 2006 Dutch music producer Fedde Le Grand recorded his interpretation, taking the song to Number 1 in five European countries, and the top 20 in a further six. THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
988-Nat King Cole-Walkin’ My Baby Back Home.
1952-Has never charted in the UK.
Best Bit-At 1.27.It’s the perfect tale of gentlemanly romance, until the fifth verse when things get confusing, and possibly even a little creepy.
‘Walkin’ My Baby Back Home’ was written in 1930 by Roy Turk (lyrics,) (1892-1934,) and Fred E. Ahlert (music,) (1892-1953.) THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
989-Underworld-Born Slippy. NUXX.
1996-Number 2 single.
Best Bit-At 4.44.If your planning to dance all the way through, make sure you pace yourself, because it’s only just getting started.
Underworld were formed in Cardiff, Wales, in 1980 by Karl Hyde, and Rick Smith, playing ‘Synth Pop,’ which was very popular at that time. It wasn’t until 1993 when they were joined by Darren Emerson, that their musical style drastically changed, into ‘Progressive House,’ and ‘Techno’ music, this new lineup would become known as ‘Underworld Mk2.’
Underworld have recorded two completely different songs called Born Slippy, this song Born Slippy. NUXX, first appeared as the ‘B’ side of Born Slippy which peaked at Number 52 on the UK chart in 1995. It wasn’t until Born Slippy. NUXX was chosen for the film ‘Trainspotting,’ that the song took off, reaching Number 2 in the UK during the Summer of ‘Euro 96,’ the football tournament played in England, incidentally Born Slippy was the name of a Greyhound that the band had won some money on, so both these songs are named in it’s honour.
The songs lyrics were written by Karl Hyde during his time as a alcoholic, he said,’We used to go out drinking in Soho, all the lyrics were written on that night. A drunk sees the world in fragments, and I wanted to recreate that. The first time we played it live, people raised their lager cans, and I was horrified, because I was still deep into alcoholism. It was never meant to be a drinking anthem, it was a cry for help.’
‘Drive boy, dirty numb angel boy,In the doorway boy.’
