‘No Woman,No Cry’ first appeared as the original studio version on Bob Marley’s 1974 Album ‘Natty Dread,’it was just over three and a half minutes in length.In 1975 Marley went out on tour to promote the Album,it was promoted as the ‘Natty Dread Tour.’The tour dates took place in America,Canada and England which included two dates at the ‘Lyceum Theatre in London.On July 17th 1975 the Lyceum concert was recorded for a future Album release.The Album was called ‘Live’ and this song was released as a single in all of it’s original seven minute performance.The live version was also included on Marley’s greatest hits Album,’Legend’ released in 1984(see also best songs 618,)’Legend’ has sold over 28 million copies worldwide making it the best selling Reggae Album of all time.
‘No Woman,No Cry’ is actually pronounced ‘no woman ‘nuh’ cry,’ in ‘Jamaican Patois,’the ‘nuh’ actually means don’t.In the song the narrator is telling his woman not to cry and not to worry because he has to go,but things will turn out fine in the end.
