This song is taken from Frank Sinatra’s(see also best songs 877-567-469 and 120) tenth studio Album,’Songs for Swingin’ Lovers!’ On July 22nd,1956 the UK compiled it’s first official Album chart and that L.P. became the first ever chart topper.The Album was arranged by Nelson Riddle(1921-1985,) who has stated that a big influence in his formative years was hearing Serge Koussevitsky and the Boston Symphony Orchestra playing Maurice Ravel’s,Bolero.’He said.’I’ve never forgotten it.It’s almost as if the orchestra leaped from the stage and smacked you in the face.’
The song was written twenty years earlier in 1936 by Cole Porter(see also best songs 944-655 and 295) for the musical film ‘Born to Dance,’ in which it was performed by the American actress and singer Virginia Bruce(1909-1982.)
In the UK the song has charted twice.In 1966 The Four Seasons took their version to Number 12 and in 1990 Nenah Cherry recorded a Hip-Hop interpretation for the charity Album ‘Red Hot + Blue which peaked at Number 25.
