‘Runaway’ went to Number 1 on several charts in 1961 including Billboard,the UK,Canada and Australia,the music was written by Max Crook,with lyrics by Del Shannon.It is often seen as one of the songs that bridges the gap between Rock ‘N’ Roll and the start of the 60’s.
The unusual sound that forms the songs bridge was written by Max Crook on an instrument he invented which he called the ‘Musitron,’ an adapted version of the 1947 ‘Clavioline,’ an electronic keyboard that gave space-age sound effects to ‘Pop Music’ decades before the synthesiser.
Del Shannon was born Charles Westover in Grand Rapids,Michigan,U.S.on December 30,1934,he died February 8,1990 by committing suicide(with a firearm,) he had been suffering from depression.
