Run-DMC(see also best songs 305) were an American Hip-Hop group from Hollis,Queens,New York,they were formed in 1981 by Joseph ‘Run’ Simmons,Darryl ‘D.M.C.’ McDaniels and Jason ‘Jam Master Jay’ Mizel(1965-2002.) The new sound that they created with sparse hard hitting beats,using ‘two turn tables and a microphone’ would lead to the foundations of Hardcore Hip-Hop.Their first single release was the original version of this song in 1983,the lyrics tackle social and political problems and tell listeners to abandon prejudice and take on a positive outlook.
In 1997 American music producer Jason Nevins remixed ‘It’s Like That’ adding an Electronic Dance beat.Initially only a small amount of copies were released on 10 inch vinyl in the U.S.,but as it became more popular it was released worldwide,selling over 5 million copies,placing it amongst the best selling songs of all time.
