Charles Hardin Holly(see also best songs 898) was born in
Lubbock,Texas,September 7,1936 and died in a plane crash near Clear Lake,Iowa in the early hours of February 3,1959 alongside fellow singers Ritchie Valens,The Big Bopper and pilot Roger Peterson.In his 1971 song American Pie Don McLean referred to the event as the day the music died.
Holly wrote True Love Ways for his wife Maria Elena Holly as a wedding gift,they had met in June 1958 and married on August 15,1958,they were married for less than six months.
Maria learned of her husbands death from the reports on the television,at the time she was pregnant,she suffered a miscarriage shortly after,reportedly due to psychological trauma.Following the miscarriage and the circumstances in which she was informed of his death a policy was later adopted by authorities not to disclose victims names until after their families have been informed.
