William ‘Smokey’ Robinson was born February 19th,1940 in Detroit,Michigan.He founded the group that would become The Miracles in 1955,staying with them until leaving in 1972 to focus on his role as vice president of Tamla Motown records.
The following year he returned to recording as a solo artist with his debut Album ‘Smokey’ which is where this song is taken from.’Just My Soul Responding’ is a protest song dealing with ghetto life in America and also the plight of the American Indian.The song was co-written by Robinson and the late Marvin Tarplin who was also a member of ‘The Miracles,’ having joined them in 1958.
