Al Jolson,born Asa Yoelson,(May 26,1886- October,23,1950) was an American singer,comedian,stage and film actor,he was the star of the first talking picture,’The Jazz Singer’ in 1927.
He is remembered for his energetic and extroverted performances when singing.Artists who have said that Jolson was an influence on them include,Tony Bennett,Neil Diamond,David Lee Roth and Rod Stewart.
‘After You’ve Gone’ was written in 1918 by Turner Layton with lyrics by Henry Creamer,the first successful recording of the song was in 1918 by Marion Harris who was the first widely known white singer to sing Jazz and Blues songs.
‘You’ll feel blue and you’ll feel sad,you’ll miss the dearest pal you ever had.’
