THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
340-Funkadelic-(Not Just) Knee Deep.
1979-Has never charted in the UK.
Best Bit-At 2.32. The ‘Freak’ in this song is a dance and like ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll’ has that naughty double entendre interpretation.
The mastermind behind Funkadelic is George Clinton. His musical career began in the late 1950’s when he formed the ‘Doo Wop’ group The Parliaments.Over the years he developed his music adding Soul,R & B,Rock and Funk,as well as incorporating many original ideas.
Due to contractual problems with his record label he had to record under different names, one was Parliament(see best songs 612) which leaned more towards Soul and Funk and the other was Funkadelic which incorporated more of a Rock sound influenced by the work of Jimi Hendrix.
Clinton working with many others would release several Albums by both groups in the 1970’s.The music was to become known as ‘P-Funk,’ meaning Parliament,Funkadelic.
Clinton’s music was to become a very important part in the development of 1980’s Hip-Hop with several influential artists such as Dr Dre and De La Soul sampling his songs.
‘Not just knee deep she was totally deep when she did the freak with me.’
