Best Bit-At 1.30.Co-writer of the song the legendary Richard Rodgers hated The Marcels ‘Doo-Wop arrangement so much that he took out advertisements in the music papers urging people not to buy it.
Blue Moon was written by Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart in 1933.It was to be used in the movie musical ‘Hollywood Party’ but it was cut from the film.It’s first use was in ‘Manhattan Melodrama’ starring Clark Gable the following year.
The song first charted on Billboard in 1949 when the American Jazz singer Billy Eckstine took the song to Number 21,in the same year fellow American Jazz singer Mel Torme took his version to Number 20.
The most successful recording of the song was this version by the American Doo-Wop group The Marcels who had a Number 1 hit both in the UK and also on Billboard in 1961.
