Calypso music is a style of music that originated in Trinidad and Tobago during the early to mid 19th Century.It’s rhythms can be traced back to the arrival of French planters and their slaves in the 18th Century.
The genre of Soca music(the ‘SOul of CAlypso) was developed in the 1970’s by Trinidadian born Garfield Blackman also known by his performing name of Lord Shorty.
Soca incorporates Calypso with elements of traditional Caribbean music and other genres including Funk,R&B and Soul.
