358-Bob Dylan-The Times They Are A-Changin.’
1965-Number 9 single.
Best Bit-At 0.27.The lyrics are as relevant now as they were when originally written in 1963 and probably always will be.
Bob Dylan(see also best songs 792 and 621) was 22 years old when he wrote this song as a deliberate attempt to create an anthem for change.
Dylan recalled ‘This was definitely a song with a purpose,it was influenced of course by the Irish and Scottish ballads such as ;A-Hunting We Will Go’ and ‘Here We Come A-Wassailing,’from the 18th and 19th Century.’
Dylan has also said ‘I wanted to write a big song, some kind of theme song, with short concise verses that piled up on each other in a hypnotic way.I knew exactly what I wanted to say and who I wanted to say it to.’
‘Come gather ’round people wherever you roam and admit that the waters around you have grown.’
