THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
369-The Hollies-The Air That I Breathe.
1974-Number 2 single.
Best Bit-At 1.43.No other intro to no other song sounds anything like this.Nothing ‘Creep-y’about it at all.
The Air That I Breathe was co-written by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood and originally recorded for Hammond’s 1972 Album ‘It Never Rains In Southern California.’
Albert Hammond is a prolific songwriter,he is the co-author of four UK Number 1 singles.’When I Need You'(Leo Sayer,) ‘Don’t Turn Around'(Aswad,) ‘One Moment In Time'(Whitney Houston) and ‘Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now'(Starship.)
The Hollies were formed in 1962 by Allan Clarke and Graham Nash.In the UK they have achieved 29 top 40 singles and 22 on Billboard, with differing lineups, they remain active to this present day.
The 1992 Radiohead song ‘Creep’ uses a similar chord progression and shares some melodic content with this song.As a result the song’s publisher sued Radiohead for copyright infringement and a settlement was reached in which Hammond and Hazlewood were given co-writing credits as well as a portion of the songs royalties.
‘If I could make a wish I think I’d pass, can’t think of anything I need.’
