The Specials(see also best songs 924) founding member and keyboardist Jerry Dammers was inspired to write the song after touring British city’s with the band and seeing decline in such places as Liverpool and Glasgow as well as the bands home town of Coventry.
The lyrics ‘All the clubs have closed down,’referred to the ‘Locarno’ in Coventry.The site is now the city library.
This was the last song recorded by the seven original members as Neville Staples,Lynval Golding and Terry Hall all left to form The Fun Boy Three.
