The Velvet Underground were formed in 1964 by Lou Reed,John Cale,Sterling Morrison and Angus MacLise.
During their years recording together they achieved little commercial success but the are now recognised as one of the most influential bands in Rock and crucial in the development of Punk Rock and New Wave.
In this song written by Lou Reed he is telling the younger generation not to make assumptions that they know everything, maybe the older people(Jack and Jane) were once like them. The song is an appeal for inter-generational understanding.
