1929-Has never charted,there was no UK chart until 1952.
Best Bit-At 3.20.In a 1941 interview Waller said the song was written while he was ‘lodging’ in prison(for an alimony violation) and that was why he was not misbehaving.
Thomas ‘Fats’ Waller was born in New York in 1904 and died after contracting pneumonia in 1943.He is recognised as being an innovator of what was to become Modern Jazz.His best known songs ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’ and ‘Honeysuckle Rose’ were both inducted into the ‘Grammy Hall Of Fame’ in 1984 and 1999.
Ain’t Misbehavin’ was written by Waller and Harry Brook with lyrics by Andy Rafaz,the song was written for the off-Broadway revue ‘Connie’s Hot Chocolates.’
In 1943 Waller re-recorded the song for the soundtrack of the movie ‘Stormy Weather’,(see also best songs 634.)
