Eddie Cochran(October 3,1938-April 17.1960) is one of the legendary names in ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll’ and ‘Rockabilly.’His image as a sharply dressed and good looking young man with a rebellious attitude epitomised who a 1950’s rocker wanted to be like.
Cochran died aged 21 in a road accident while travelling from a performance in a taxi in Chippenham,Wiltshire during his British tour in 1960.The speeding taxi blew a tire, the driver lost control and the vehicle crashed in to a lamppost, all the other passengers, who were his manager Pat Thompkins, singer Gene Vincent(see also best songs 757) and Cochran’s fiancee Sharon Sheeley survived.
Somethin’ Else was co-written by Sheeley and Cochran’s elder brother Bob,notable cover versions include Johnny Hallday’s French version titled ‘Elle Est Terrible’ and the Sex Pistols 1979 UK Number 3, with Sid Vicious on lead vocals.
‘I got that girl and I’m a-thinking to myself she’s sure fine lookin’ man wow she’s somethin’ else.’
