One of the reasons for the songs enduring popularity is it’s unusual lyrics.Keith Reid has said he was at a party and he heard someone saying to a woman ‘You’ve turned a whiter shade of pale,’and the phrase stuck in his mind.Of the song he said, ‘I was trying to conjure a mood as much as tell a straightforward,girl leaves boy story.’
