The Libertines were formed in 1997 by Pete Doherty and Carl Barat,in 2002 they released the Album ‘Up The Bracket’ and in 2004 the Album ‘The Libertines’ and then they split.In 2015 they re-united and released ‘Anthems For Doomed Youth.’
In this song Doherty and Barat take turns singing to each other about how much they can’t work with each other anymore even so they are still very close.

Working Class Hero is track 4 side 1 on ‘John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band,’his first Album after the break up of The Beatles.Lennon said ‘The song is about working class individuals being processed into the middle classes,into the machine.’
The song is influenced by the Bob Dylan song ‘Masters Of War’ which in turn was based on Jean Richie’s arrangement of the traditional English Folk song ‘Nottamun Town.’
It has been said that Lennon obsessed about the recording of this song for many days,singing an endless amount of takes,somewhere between 100-130.

These are the words on Harry Chapin’s gravestone.
Harry Chapin(see also best songs 995) born December 7th,1942 and died in a car accident July 16th,1981 was an American singer/songwriter and a dedicated humanitarian who fought to end world hunger.
Chapin was one of the greatest storytellers in song.W.O.L.D.tells the story of an ageing Disc Jockey who has travelled around America working in several different Radio Stations,following his passion which he believes will bring him happiness,only to discover that his life,looks and voice have all passed him by,as hinted in the ‘OLD’ in the title.

Best Bit-At 0.45.’The Walrus Of Love’ had a massive appetite for romance,only surpassed by his appetite for the contents of his refrigerator.
Never,Never Gonna Give Ya Up was written and produced by Barry White(see also best songs 560) and released as the first single from his 1973 Album ‘Stone Gon.’
Between 1973-1999 White released 20 studio Albums,his most successful being the 1974 release ‘Cant Get Enough’ which gave him his only Billboard Number 1.He also achieved 16 UK top 40 singles including his only Number 1 song ‘You’re The First My Last My Everything’ in 1974.
In 1997 British singer Lisa Stansfield covered Never,Never Gonna Give Ya Up taking her version to Number 25 in the UK.
Barry White had teamed up with Lisa Stansfield back in 1992 recording Stansfield’s most successful song ‘All Around The World’ with all artist royalties being donated to the charity ‘Trading Places.’In 1999 they also recorded the duet ‘The Longer We Make Love’ for White’s Album Staying Power.’

In 2011 Jay-Z(see also best songs 636) and Kanye West(see also best songs 849) joined forces for their collaboration Album ‘Watch The Throne,’seven singles and seven videos were released for its promotion.
The songs inspiration came from a visit that Kanye West had made to Paris.He said ‘I am where art meets commercial,the sweet spot between the hood and Hollywood.’

Best Bit-At 1.58.Light years before the far more difficult to perform ‘The Moonwalk,’came the ‘Moonstomp.’
In 1969 Jamaican Ska artist Derrick Morgan wrote a song called ‘Moon Hop’ to commemorate the Apollo Moon landing.The British Afro-Caribbean Ska and Reggae band Symarip wrote and released Skinhead Moonstomp shortly afterwards and although they claimed that there was no relation between the songs Derrick Morgan disagreed calling them ‘copy cats.’
In 1980 in the wake of the 2 Tone revolution Skinhead Moonstomp was re-issued.Other notable versions of the song are by The Specials and the late great Judge Dread.

Best Bit-At 2.41.They have sold over 100 million records worldwide and it all started after they played their first ever gig in the dining hall in ‘A’ Block in Westfield School in Mosborough,Sheffield in 1977.
Animal was the song which finally made Def Leppard a household name in their own country,but they had already become superstars in America years earlier thanks to the success of their 1983 Album Pyromania,which has sold close to 2 million copy’s to date.
The line ‘Like the restless rust,I never sleep’ is a reference to Neil Young’s song Rust Never Sleeps from 1979.

‘It Should Have Been Me’ was written in 1963 by the Motown songwriting employees William ‘Mickey’ Stevenson and making yet another appearance on this countdown,Norman Whitfield(see also best songs 533,569,777 and 911.)
The earliest recording of the song was by Kim Weston in 1963 with backing vocals by the Supremes. In 1968 Gladys Knight and the Pips reached Number 40 on Billboard with their version.Another notable recording is by the Dance artist Adeva who took her version to Number 48 in the UK in 1991.
Yvonne Fair was a member of The Chantels in the 1960’s and was also a singer with the touring James Brown Revue,she recorded the song ‘I Found You’ which was later re-worked into the James Brown signature hit ‘I Got You,(I Feel Good.)
