THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
481-Elton John and Kiki Dee-Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.
1976-Number 1 single.
Best Bit-At 2.55.The probable explanation why Elton John performs live sat at a piano.
Elton John(see also best songs 946) and Bernie Taupin had originally intended to record the song with Dusty Springfield, but she had to withdraw because she was too ill at the time.
The song came about because Elton John had always been a fan of Tamla Motown duets by the likes of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. The idea was to record a cover version of The Four Tops song ‘Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever,’until they came up with this gem.
In 1994 a re-recorded version of the song this time with RuPaul reached Number seven in the UK.
‘Honey when you knock on my door I gave you my key.’

THE 1000 BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD EVER.
482-2Pac featuring Dr.Dre and Roger Troutman-California Love.
1996-Number 6 single.
Best Bit-At 2.20.Like so many other great Hip-Hop songs, this also uses many samples, but before some of you get on your musical high horses just remember that in Pop Music NO song has ever been totally original, every new song is influenced by something that has gone before.
California Love samples Joe Cocker’s 1972 song Woman To Woman(it was not a hit in the UK,but got to Number 1 in Spain.) The chorus ‘California knows how to party’ was sung by the late Roger Troutman using his characteristic ‘Talk Box’ and was taken from the 1982 song ‘West Coast Poplock’ by Ronnie Hudson.
The song was co-written and produced by Dr.Dre(see also best songs 544.) It was the first release by Tupac Shakur for ‘Death Row Records’ after his release from prison. It is said that he wrote his Rap for the song in under fifteen minutes.
‘Out on bail fresh outa jail,California dreaming, soon as I stepped on the scene,I’m hearing hoochies screaming.’
