Fever was written by Eddie Cooley and Otis Blackwell,the original recording is by R&B singer Little Willie John who took his version to Number 24 on Billboard in 1956.Other notable versions are by Elvis Presley done in the same style as the Peggy Lee recording and Madonna who reached Number 6 in 1993 with a dance mix of the song.
Songwriter Otis Blackwell was a significant influence in the development of Rock ‘N’ Roll.His compositions include the classic ‘Great Balls Of Fire’ and the Elvis Presley million sellers ‘All Shook Up,’Don’t Be Cruel’ and ‘Return To Sender.’
Most music critics would agree that this is the definitive version of ‘Fever’ which has become Peggy Lee’s signature tune.
